is anyone getting lots of muscle(knee in particular) with letrozole.should i ask for bone density check?

From what I know the advice is that one should ask for a bone density scan in the beginning of treatment with letrozole. I'm an ovarian cancer patient and I have been taking Letrozol for about a fortnight now without any major side effects.I am oestrogen receptor positive (8 out of 8) and we thought Letrozol, which has been found to work with breast cancer women, might also work for ovarian cancer women and prevent estrogen from feeding the cancer. I am though a bit disappointed to have read some studies which do not show the same promising results for ovarian cancer patients and unfortunately it takes time to establish the picture. My CA rose to 162 from 79

and we were thinking we could control it through Letrozol.

I wonder what is the reason that you have decided to take Letrozol as a treatment.

yes I am also an ovarian cancer patient and have been taking letrozol for about 3 months since coming off tamoxifen as my ca 125 has been rising and also my tumours have started to grow(slowly).I wasnt offered a bone density scan but will ask when I go to my next appointment in october.

I was on Letrozole for a few months but it didn't help in controlling the disease and my CA125 continued to rise quite quickly. I did have a lot of joint pain, particularly ankles and knees, while I was taking letrozole and I understand this is quite a common side effect. I hope the letrozole works for you.

Hi Lesley,

I am NOT taking Letrozole, but your post interested me because I still get excruciating joint pains in my elbows, knees, ankles and hip after chemo. I finished chemo in April 2011. It seems this is also a chemo side effect.

I had never evenm thought about a bone density test, maybe I should talk to my GP about that too.

Thanks for bring your joint pains to attention - there is a whole lot more to the Ov C and its treatments - SIDE EFFECTS that become long term!!!!!!
