I'm also interested to know about the long term use of Avastin as I've just been put on it every 3 weeks for a year.

Hi, I am here to try and answer your question. I have put a long blog on describing why I have been away from the site since April.

Avastin has been my life saver, I truly know that. I was put on trials here in Spain with Avastin and a very old tablet, daily, for ovarian cancer called Cyclophosmide.. The combination of these two shrunk all my tumours by over half (and I have many). I am stage 5 and now into my 6th year of survival. I was on the drug, I think, for about 3 years. It doesn't harden the veins like normal chemo does, the only real bad side effects I had were from the Cyclophosmide.

Avastin isn't like normal chemo, it actually cuts the blood supply off to the tumours, not 100% though. I was the healthiest I have ever felt on the drug.

At the moment I wish I could go back on it, but having problems with lesions from the cancer surgery means if I need emergency surgery it would be impossible, as you have to be off the Avastin for 6 weeks before they can operate. Also you CAN NOT go to the dentist, not even the hygeniest.

Hope this has answered some of your questions.
