Is it possible to have full debulking op privately but still use nhs for chemotherapy? I'm looking into different options.

Thanks, I'm just looking into it as I'm in South wales and unless you go private they don't use the robotics that I have been looking into that have a higher success rate in removal with least damage. I will ask on Wednesday when I see the oncologist about my chemo as I'm having that then surgery x

Robotic assisted is really great and for me meant less downtime. I've blended private and NHS previously.x

I had robotic and it was a relatively easy recovery but I am in the States.

Hi, I had robotic surgery on the NHS last October because I have a congenital muscleweakness, Ehlers-Danlos. It was miraculous. I had many of my innards removed. I am curious where you read that it has a higher success rate. Can you let me know, please.

Its on you tube as a video also Christina Fotopoulou a professor I read about seems to be having great success stories x

You will find many mention Christina on here. She’s an incredible lady. I had her for my 2nd debulking Jan 2020. Not sure she does robotic but she’s a miracle worker & is lovely with it. All the best for whatever path you end up taking ( with advice from ovarian cancer professionals of course).

Take good care xx

Did you have surgery before or during chemo break? X

Also did it cause a delay in your treatment due to moving records around? Thanks xx

Can you please clarify 'better success rate as it is used in many context in this group. Thanks.

I read a study that said they were equal in terms of overall survival but robotic is a quicker recovery and you don’t get incisional hernias. However not every case is suitable for robotic; I’m not sure why.

It's just the recovery time and less bleeding more accurate that has got my thinking 🤔 x

There was no delay in treatment for record moving between hospitals. It is all computerised nowadays and doctors can share between hospitals and log in to your prime hospital records.

Make sure you get all the diagnostics dive properly before the private op. Mine was five in haste and I think they should have dive more tests etc as I wihh my e up with only the ovaries taken out private as too much surgery with what kay beneath that they didn’t know about. But if you are gaviota cheli first then they obviously know what is there. They couldn’t biopsy my mass and as I say maybe too hasty with private op and could have had more tests. Will never know but am now on chemo with NHS with view to surgery on NHS if things shrink.

I have used a combination of private and NHS. Had initial investigations done locally then had biopsies done privately at the Royal Marsden. Managed to switch to NHS for debulking at the Marsden then back to NHS for chemo. It might be worth asking your GP to make a referral to the hospital of your choice on NHS as the referral process has changed recently so that referrals can be made outside your local referral pathways, though they don’t have to accept. Also consider what would happen if things don’t go to plan and you have an extended stay and the cost involved. It is fiddly and time consuming switching between NHS and private, you have to keep your finger on the pulse all the time but it can be done. I would do it all again. I wish you all the best.

Yes that's good advice, the private hospital is in England so they won't refer me there but taking on board all the advice given I will ask oncologist today at my appointment x
