CA125 is 145 but clear ultrasound

Hello, I was in hospital recently with sepsis and while there they found raised CA125 as well as me realising I have a lot of the other symptoms with bloating and irregular bleeding etc.

My CA125 was done twice after discharge as they thought the sepsis could be causing the high levels and I needed to be infection free. It was 135 two weeks ago and this week was 145.

Just back from the ultrasound and the sonographer said he could not see anything on either ovary to cause worry.

The results will all go through to consultant (gynae) and GP but I wondered if anyone else had this. Should I be pushing for CT scan or investigative op?

In my opinion I'd wait until the results go through to the gynae consultant. He or she is more expert than a Gp. You may have a follow up appointment with the consultant to discuss the results then you can take it from there with your concerns if you need to. If you continue to have concerns then ask your Gp for a second opinion.

My mum had the exact same. 3 clear ultrasounds and a clear ct scan from Oct to Dec 2018. They decided, as the bloods were still rising, to remove ovaries and tubes. Found stage 3A in Jan 2019. Her ca125 in oct was 133, then 166

So sorry what I’m trying to say is, push for more investigations!

My ultrasound was clear too.I have Primary peritoneal cancer...very similar to Ovarian.

I would definately push for a CT.

You're already doing all the right things so keep positive. I really hope all is well for you .

Think you need to see oncologist gynaecologist more of an expert in my opinion pay if need bein my experience it was worth every penny. Its just the consultation you pay for lm talking from personal experience. But we all have to be pro active at the moment with our care, if you dont feel right then query it think we know our bodies.

On the other hand you do have to watch you don't become paranoid . Its difficult some ladies on here get lots of symptoms l didnt get any it was purely a blood test for CA125 which was high. I felt perfectly fine so lm lucky. And 2 years on from chemo there no evidence of any cancer

so lm doing well. And there are a lot of ladies thankfully on here the same and a lot longer we all help each other on here. We tell our stories through this journey in the hope that helps someone else through this . Its not always easy, but its not always hard either. I get on with my life like l did before and enjoy every minute. Get the right advice and dont waste any time. Sending you love & hugs SheilaFxxx

Sonographers should not say anything about what they see. Results need to be reviewed by a doctor, and additional scans, probably CT and/or MRI, done if anything suspicious shows up. At the minimum, you should have a repeat CA125 in a month, and another if that is elevated. But I would definitely push for a CT if not offered, and if your symptoms continue.

I specifically asked my sonographer what he was seeing. He was very calm and explained clearly that I had a 'bulky uterus, and growths on both ovaries'. He also mentioned that these may be fibroids and cysts, but that I would be referred for an urgent appt with Gynae, and should ask for a CA125 blood test to be done. I knew right then that I had cancer and I'm glad, because it allowed me to sit my partner down gently and prepare him for what we were going to hear from consultants in the weeks to come.

I accept that the sepsis could have caused the raised CA125 levels, but it isn't responsible for the irregular bleeding and bloating. These may not necessarily indicate OC, but I would push hard for this to be reviewed by a gynae-oncologist, so that they can order any further tests they need, to be sure. Wishing you luck.

Keep pushing until you have a definite result. GYN ONC for sure and second opinion if they try to push you off..........Wishing you much luck
