Anyone diagnosed with stage 2A clear cell. Can someone tell me the reason why this type is always graded a 3 or is this not always the case

Grade level is determined by how differential the cells are from normal cells. Clear cell cancer is abnormal and quite different than Normal cells.

Hope that clarifies,

Kris

Clear cell tends to give lower CA levels. It is hob nail shape making it harder for chemo to ilfiltrate it is also always fast growing hence the grade 3. So the aim of chemo is break the pattern before it blocks up again into a bigger tumour

Hi I was diagnosed in April 2014 with stage 3c clear cell ovarian cancer it responded very well to platnim based chemotherapy. I'm cancer free to date. Best wishes for the same.

I was diagnosed in August 2014 1c3 clear cell, I responded really well to chemo and am rapidly coming to 3 years since I was diagnosed. I was really lucky though, I had a few symptoms that were indicative of cancer and a fabulous GP who acted really quickly. ❤️Xx Jane

Hi Cropcrop,

Thanks for getting back to me, I know it's been a while since ive responded to your Info cropcrop, apologies.

Is there a big difference in your stage and mine 2A? I know it is what it is, but you here so much different information re the figo stages x

The figo stages were amended in January 2014 but not dramatically so. As far as I can tell, the difference between your staging and mine is -

Stage 1c

IC Tumor limited to 1 or both ovaries

IC1

Surgical spill

IC2

Capsule rupture before surgery or tumor on ovarian surface.

IC3

Malignant cells in the ascites or peritoneal washings.

Stage 2

2A Extension and/or implant on uterus and/or Fallopian tubes

2B Extension to other pelvic intraperitoneal tissues

I've taken this info from the figo staging website for ovarian cancer.

I think though that we have to factor in opinions by doctors and researchers, I was told my peritoneal washings were clear yet I was staged 1c3 so opinions can differ quite widely.

Hope this helps. Take lots of care ❤️Xx Jane
