My dr. told me that if firstline surgery is optimal and succesful and ALL visible cancer can be removed , prognosis is excellent.
I don't know your situation but I think if there is cancer left after surgery you can still live YEARS and DECADES and die because something else, we don't have crystal ball .. But maybe that is good,I think
Positives and rest is the key of this, dont stress . Your dr is right that new treatments are on the way and maybe cancer is not in the future that bad . The word CANCER is bad, it sounds bad, death and all that, argh.. But today , there is more people survive and live with cancer than die of cancer.
Hi. OC is seen as a 'chronic' condition, I in fact have so far survived 9 years and am currently NED. There are ladies who have survived much longer, my mum did. We can but hope :).
Hi Softiasomatha, well let's look at it this way when HIV was discovered I think in the 80s people were poping off all over the place it looked as if it was going to destore us all. A death sentence to any one that had it but its treatable now & one day it could be curable.
I feel its down to awareness catch OC early & yes you could live to old age especially with new drugs coming out.
The Breast cancer awareness campaign has really helped to cut the death rates down. My cousins had BC 25 years ago they are in good health.
We have lots of lovely ladies on here that are making a big differences to OC awareness like Gilly by designing her own OC awareness handbag cards.
I'm stage 1. Had surgery etc clear for three years then I recurred. Was told that once it recurs it will again. It depends which card you have been dealt. Have lost so many wonderful women to OC this year and another yesterday. Internet friends who I miss.
Hi, I was diagnosed with stage 3b high grade serous following surgery in June 2013. I completed 2nd line chemo in August 16. I hope to be around for many more years. If we do t have hopoe, we have nothing! Ann x
I also have been on the road for some time, it is good to know new drugs are coming on board. OC is a chronic illness in some and others may never recur, we are all different, wish you the best
All things are of course possible, hopefully one day they will be probable. One of the key elements IMO is having an Oncologist working with and for you. A good Onc is worth their weight in gold. Good luck and hopefully you will give us all an update in 10 years time.
