HI Flower 19 sorry your Mum is unwell at the moment but she is in the right hands, hopefully they will stop the nose bleeds and the platelets will come up again in a few days. Do look after your self too and rest.

Ok I'm sorry that your mum is going through this.

Just before I had my cancer diagnosed ( but I think know it was there lurking quietly) I had 6 weeks in hospital with a platelet count of 3. They couldn't get it to shift upwards despite platelet transfusions. Eventually I had something called rommepostulian ( phonetic spelling...can't even say the word correctly). That's an IV transfusion and I even got to do it at home myself. I had that every day for about a month and then my immune system kicked in again and I've not had any issues since ...that was 4 years ago and I've had 3 lines of chemo since.

I'm telling you all this to let you know that if one thing doesn't work another might....it's not the end.

Dawn xx

Hi Flower please try not to worry, your mum is in the right place and they will do all they can to get the platelets up. The same thing happened to me at the start of my current chemo regime (Carboplatin and Caelyx) and I ended up as an emergency hospital admission as had an uncontrollable nose bleed. They packed both nostrils and I looked like a boxer! I had 2 units of blood, 2 platelet top ups and injections to boost white cells too. If I remember correctly my platelets were 0.5!! Anyway after a week in hospital where I received amazing care I went home and was well enough for chemo the following week. They did however decrease the chemo dose and for the remaining cycles of chemo i have been absolutely fine. My mid term scan showed reduction regardless of the dose reduction. The initial dose was obviously just too high for me. Keep supporting your mum as she will probably be shattered when she gets out of hospital but she will pick up once her bloods begin to recover like I did.

Love and hugs. Please try not to worry.

Xxx

Hi, I know you are worried and scared. Your mum is being looked after by her team. I think you can help by staying positive, especially when visiting her. I'm sure she will get through this wee blip. You take care. Ann x

Hi Flower

I never had that experience but I do believe it is quite common. Of course it is very scary for you because you worry for your mum. You have had some very reassuring replies and I would agree with them . She is in the best of hands and they will do all the right things to make sure she is ok. Sometimes it is more upsetting for relatives like yourself than it is for the patient. Try not to worry. Everyone is here for you. Take care
