Meeting with oncologist.

Hi all,

I had my first meeting with my oncologist on Thursday. I'm disease free at the moment and although I presented in June at Stage 4, he confirmed that I am now Stage 3c due to the fact that I had responded so well to chemo (Taxol/Carboplatin). I can only conclude this is good news! He has scheduled 4 more taxol/carboplation and then 1 year on Avistan. My hair has just started to grow again, but will be gone once more in the coming weeks with more chemo. Does hair grow back when on Avistan?

regards

Juliet

Yes Avastin shouldnt affect your hair growth, I am on it at the present time and my two years are almost up so I suppose the next scan in two weeks will tell a lot, Great you are downgraded, good news and your markers should be down more by the time you finish the present chemo. It takes about six months for hair to come back but at least you are heading in to winter and there are some nice caps around. Your hair will probably come back curly but use plenty of conditioner when it starts to appear, Best wishes Juliet

Thanks Suzuki- good luck with results from next scan.

I have been to a few in Cork Juliet, I am thinking about going to Dublin okay, I know the Hotel is just across the Bridge from Heuston Station, I will make up my mind this week. The talks by the medical oncologists I find very informative as also the patient stories as you feel you are not alone and that we all have the same emotions. I think there is a carer speaking this time, I know Sinead will be enjoyable and interesting, she was in Cork in May and went down a treat,

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it - and to meeting up with some ladies on this site!

Hello. Apologies for my lack of knowledge. I have only had 3 carbo/taxol and having debulking and 3 more chemo. The doc did mention avastin, but i thoyght this maybe if/when it comes back. I don't understand why people are on avastin when disease free? Good luck with the treatment and hope side effects aren't too bad.

Juliet, Fantastic news to read and more importantly for you to read. The combination of Taxol & Carbo seems to work a treat with most of us - and Introduction odf Avastin is a maintenance drug which works on cutting off the blood supply to the tumours, which results in tumours not growing.

You many find that your hair begins to grow before you finish the current chemo cycles, which is good, but it may be very fine - so don't colour it for a while if you don;t like the colour.

PS: have been to a few of the Patient Days and somehow we all recognise each other when we speak - as seemingly, we post as we talk!!!!!

Best wishes,
