Hi all!

I wanted to introduce myself. I am 58 and just dx.

My t score showed osteopenia for the average of the left hip.

t-score or 2.8 for the femoral part of the hip

and 2.7 for the lumbar spine.

I am kind of in shock. Been having some chronic back and hip pain, but MRI showed nothing significant.

Seeing a rheumatologist that specializes in osteoporosis at the end of Nov.

Just feeling really upset and the options for meds scare me. have done a lot of research.

Started to step up my walking and lifting free weights.

Just got married and feel a burden to my husband. Need some support. :(

Thank y

I'm 5'3" (used to be 5'4", so i've lost height. no history of OP in family)... 110 lbs.

Caucasian. Concerned b/c of being so small boned.

You ladies are wonderful!!!🥰

Sorry to hear about your dx. Your scores aren't horrendous and only just osteoporosis.

Assuming you have no previous fractures, don't smoke, haven't taken Glucocorticoids, don't have Rheumatoid arthritis, and don't drink more than 3 units/day of alcohol. The frax calculator comes back with:

The ten year probability of fracture (%)

Major osteoporotic 11

Hip Fracture 2.7

You can run the calculator yourself here: frax.shef.ac.uk/FRAX/tool.a...

Thank you, restlesspegs! I really appreciate this. I don't smoke, haven't taken glucocorticoids, and MRI ruled out rheumatoid arthritis. I don't drink either. You were so kind to work that out for me!! <3

Try not to worry and be proactive. Those scores scare us so bad that we are afraid to move. My T score was -3.5 4 years ago. 2 years ago I had shoulder surgery to remove a bone spur. The surgeon check inside my shoulder to make sure she did not have to do more. She said my bones looked healthy and no sign of deterioration. I do get pain in my back bone and pain in my hips and wrist but so far I can manage. Keeping positive and active is a big plus. I do not take anything for osteoporosis I do take a calcium supplement with D3 and k2. Viactiv chews. My digestive specialist says to get my nutrients from food. Best Wishes.

Thank you, Kitchen. Your response gives me hope! I need hope so badly. Seems I'm in tears or on the verge of tears every day. I started brisk walking and taking "Perfect Aminos", Vit D3, K-2 (mk-7) from Nanno, magnesium, testosterone (low dose -prescribed by my holistic Dr.)... and calcium in fortified almond milk... have a bone building supplement also but I haven't started it yet bc afraid the magnesium will be too much for me- it makes me go to the bathroom (don't want the runs!)... ugh ... don't want to think about this anymore.

Great, your going to an holistic doctor. The worse thing we can do is worry. Just keep an eye on things. Best wishes!
