I had 6 infusions of Zometa (same as Reclast) once a year beginning in 2008. My bone density came back but now that I am back on cancer drugs it has dropped again so I have started another round of Reclast infusions. I have never had any negative side-effects EVER. This time around, my endocrinologist said she wants to stop at 3 infusions, because that is when folks start seeing the mandibular bone necrosis, even tho that is rare. I think folks are more likely to respond with negative outcomes so I wanted to add my voice to the positive side of these drugs. Each person’s choice is personal, however, so best of luck to you in your decision making.

Hi Crawldad, I recommend you type "Reclast" into the Search HealthUnlocked bar up at the top right of your screen. Lots of people have posted about Reclast over the years.

Here is more information on Reclast (zoledronic acid) from American Bone Health:

Yes ive taken recast. Drink a ton of water vefore you go and take Tylenol. Helps so you dont get a headache. You may feel a bit yecky for a few days but you'll feel better but it seems this med works.

I took Reclast once and had terrible bone pain for about 6 months afterword. Five weeks after taking the infusion I had started having a lot of dental issues - several abscesses, lost a tooth, had to have a multi-tooth crown removed, bone graphs, etc. - a two year saga. Coincidence? And, because I had taken the Reclast within a year, the dentist had a hard time finding an oral surgeon or an endodontist who would treat me.

Yes, I had gone to the dentist before and gotten his OK. All my dental work was up to date. The dentist had said there was nothing he was even thinking about doing for the foreseeable future.

I don't recall if the Reclast helped my bone density. I haven't taken it or any of the other drugs for osteoporosis since then.
