My rheumatology upset me when he saw my DEXA scan told me to take FORTEO?He said I was going to break my hip or back.

I am 78 years old and I appreciate your replies. I am doing now nothing about my osteoporosis. I have decided to take my chances. In the past I did have two vertebral fractures. My DEXA scan is very poor because I stopped taking probably are due to the pandemic and other decisions not to take such a strong medication.My daughter is upset with me and warned me that I could wind up in a wheelchair. I am exercising and going to physical therapy twice a week. I walk every day. And I try to eat well but I’m a little person with thin bones. Petite very petite. Iweighed under 100 pounds. The rheumatologist never told me that I would lose bone if I take stop taking the Priola. I would’ve never gone on it if I knew that.

I just finished 2 years of Forteo. I had no side effects and impressive gains on my bone density tests. I felt stronger as the months passed. That makes sense as my spine improved significantly. Hope you decide to move forward and take advantage of this medication!

Teriparatide should also be followed up with a bisphosphonate to "lock in" the improvement. And as with Prolia there are things you can do for yourself, non-medicated: healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

It is advisable to take a bisphosphonate if you discontinue Prolia to help avoid the rebound osteoporosis.
