Starting school

Hi everyone,

I wondered if anyone had any advice that might help - I found out a few weeks ago that my son got a place in reception but not at the school we were hoping for him to go to.

I have been to see the school we were given and it seems ok but I am worried that all his nursery friends are going somewhere else and he won’t know anyone.

To be honest he probably won’t even notice! But I wondered if anyone had any experience of this and how their child got on starting school? Is there anything I could do to help him get ready for this move?

Hi, our 6 year went to reception after most of her nursery friends went to another school. The school she goes to has been great and picked it up really quick and had an extra group which spent extra time in class time. It was aimed at confidence, nurture and making new friends. Our LG is going to have a mini graduation from this school in a school and is absolutely a more confident and outgoing girl. Speak to the school about your concerns they may do a transition day or two.

Hi @hydrodad . Thanks , I rang school and they are doing a few sessions at the end of June where we will meet the teacher and some other children in his class so I think that will help. It also seems they start slowly - just a few days a week in September so that will help us get used to the new routine!
