Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma in Stomach

I have been told that my tumour is a Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma. Is there anyone else out there who has this type of tumour. I understood from my oncologist that it is fairly unusual. Thanks.

I suffer the same...signet ring carcinoma.

My oncologist seems less concerned than I am. His suggestion is that life expectancy is far more random. That is contrary to studies showing otherwise.

My sense that SRC is more aggressive, more difficult to detect on scans, and patients have generally a shorter life ahead vs adenocarcinoma.

Through the Internet, look up the Kaplan-Meier analysis showing a comparison of three year survival rates among patients with and without SRC in Stage II and Stage III disease. The graphics are dramatic. It is bad news for us that suffer from SRC.

When I found out what type of tumour I have I made the mistake of Googling it and didn't like what I read. When I mentioned this to my oncologist he told me "We cannot see in to the future"! I think he probably wanted to say "Don't bloody Google". A lot of statistical data is not up to date and I'm determined I'm not going to be a statistic! I've been told that my tumour is locally advanced meaning it has not spread anywhere else. I'm hoping that the chemo will keep it at bay and in a couple of months time I'll have surgery to remove my stomach.

It is an unusual cancer, but statistics are almost meaningless when it comes to an individual like yourself rather than the general pattern of a disease. So much depends on how your own body reacts to chemotherapy / surgery - and we are all different. So you have to think about the proportion of people who have good outcomes - there are always some people who defy the odds - and to do your best to join them.

At 68 I was diagnose

d with signet ring carcinoma of the stomach .A esi was done..removal of lining of stomach and have had endoscopes every 3 months which show no more cancer.I had stage 2 cancer.So far so good! One can survive signet ring cancer!.Oh and it was 2 years ago
