Just back frpm husband's endoscopy.

We're back from the hospital and he's resting whlist the sedative wears off.

The consultant saw no lumps or bumps or anything else that shouldn't be there however has stated there was severe inflammation and reflux. He took biopsies and is also sending husband for a CT scan to rule out anything else in the surrounding areas. He has been told increase his PPI.

Now reflux is the one symptom hubby isn't getting. He's got weight loss, choking when eating /drinking, food getting stuck, regurgitation etc etc. But no heartburn or indigestion. It makes no sense for it to be reflux.

The consultant gave us information on Barretts oesophagus as he thinks it may be that.

Just not sure what to think now regarding the CT scan, would this be normal procedure if nothing showed up during the endoscopy?

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Good news on the endoscopy im sure if it was cancer he would know. In terms of of reflex....my husband never had heartburn and the only symptom he got was food feeling like it was stuck. They figured he had silent reflex which i had never heard of before. Endoscopy for my husband found the tumour which was cancer. Your lucky he was clear but if i were you follow up on what the doctor wants.

Thanks Zoey.

I'm absolutely taking it as a positive that they never found anything (other than the severe inflammation) with the endoscopy. Just nervous now about the need for a CT scan, we just need to wait on the appointment coming through.

I looked up silent reflux as you mentioned, it provides interesting reading.

The strange thing was after having the endoscopy yesterday hubby has bee able to eat and drink fine without the choking or gagging or regurgitation. Its like the endoscope has stretched out the muscles or something. I don't know..

Just more waiting until the CT.

hi , i have just posted my first post on here so now i feel i can mabey reply to some .its good your hubby is getting the ct scan .endoscopy didnt diagnose my condition . a barium meal followed by ct scan did .so it will rule out anything else pressing on the oesophagus and causing a blockage . glad the tests so far have been posative . whoever is looking after your hubby is just being thorough .

Hi,

Barrett Oesophagus is a pre-cancerous condition where the cells in the food pipe show some some slight changes that could potentially and in rare cases develop into cancerous cells.

My guess is that the consultant wants to rule out definitely any cell changes with the CT scan. I think then, they keep a 'watchful eye' which is reassuring as they will be aware of any changes before they become serious.

I hope that reassures.

Thank you so much for you reply. I really appreciate it.

Its strange that since the endoscopy on Friday husband has been eating and drinking normally (maybe not quite as big portions as pre choking etc) without any intances of choking etc. Its really weird.

We will await the CT appointment and yake it from there.

Thanks again
