My husband is 65 and had difficulty swallowing so he had a endoscopy, a narrowing of the bottom of the gullet was found, he then was sent for a ct scan, waiting for results. He is very tired all the time recently and he falsl asleep anywhere, are these all signs of cancer really worried

Normally a tumour is found with an endoscopy which in my case was told immediately rather than waiting for results. So shouldnt worry to much while awaiting results

I too was told there was a narrowing of the oesophagus at the joint with the stomach but no usual signs of tumour. The medical staff will need to be absolutely sure what the problem is. Sometimes it is simple and stretching will solve it. In my case I needed two more endoscopies a CT scan then a PET scan. At an early stage my specialist nurse offered to introduce me to someone who had gone through all the same worries, examinations, procedures but after a couple of years was back to relative normality. I took up her offer and the man she brought me into contact with was an absolute tower of strength for myself and my wife. Here he was a living, jolly, bundle of energy that proved that there was light at the end of the tunnel and that all was not gloom and doom. He regularly kept in touch throughout my problem and even took my wife to the hospital after the op and has remained a firm friend since. I am now five months post op and generally speaking feeling great .

So you probably have nothing to worry about but should your worse fears be realized perhaps your husband's specialist nurse could let him make contact with someone near who has been through the same and willing to help.

I wish you both the very best and know everyone on this forum will be doing the same.

Me too - I was told straight away after my endoscopy that there was a tumour down there, the biopsy and CT scan that followed confirmed that the tumour was cancerous and how far it had spread

Try not to worry you can drive yourself crazy with the what ifs and it might 'just' be Barratts Oesophagus

hubby got to go for results in the morning a 9 I am really worried as he is not very well not coping xx

What the others have said is quite right. An endoscopy will normally be able to detect a tumour in the oesophagus straight away. Waiting for results from biopsy does take longer but it does mean that if anything is found, the chances of successful treatment are much higher.

The tiredness and fatigue could also be a sign of anaemia / vitamin deficiency so it might be worth exploring that aspect. Now that you are 'in the system' they should be able to investigate things thoroughly and make a diagnosis. It is natural to be worried at this stage but the scans should help. Sometimes things turn out to be far less serious than we first thought, but you never get to that stage until the tests have been done.

As a layman I am guessing , but it does sound positive in that the Endoscopist saw a narrowing and not an obvious tumor. If the biopsy reveals something malignant then hopefully it has been detected early which makes an enormous difference.

Just to encourage you my own endoscopy revealed an absolute horror show with a tumor the size of a grapefruit -- and that was 22 years ago.
