hi my dad had an esophagectomy 7 years ago, he is now 85 and has had his problems but has done amazing still enjoying his life. He has had this on going problem where the stomach doesn’t empty properly and causes him pain. When he had the surgery 7 years ago he had to have more surgery where they stretched the stomach with a balloon if I remember correctly. He has just had an investigation and still the stomach isn’t emptying how it should apparently there is a pocket where the food is collecting and some vegetables had been in there for a while. They have put him on some medication to see if it helps to empty but he said it seems the same. I am worried as he couldn’t take any more surgery to stretch the stomach.

He is eating soft foods and soups just wondered if anyone had any advise.

sending best wishes to all Ali xx

Hello. My mum is 72 and had surgery 8 years ago. She also had a stretch as she had problems with food getting stuck. Within the last 6 months she is being violently sick most evenings. She has had an endoscopy and found that food is causing a blockage. They are not able to do another stretch. The doctor told her she needs to eat small amounts and to choose mainly fish and meat and to avoid vegetarian foods including vegetables. My mum is struggling with knowing what a small portion is. She is old school used to eating 3 meals a day meat and veg. Any ideas greatly appreciated as she has now chosen not to go out due to the sickness. Thank you
