I had my Ivor Lewis in June then post op chemo which finished in October.
I’ve been incredibly well apart from eating by the clock as I don’t experience hunger anymore.
My weight has been steady for months now but over the last 3 weeks I’ve started to vomit . It was only once or twice over a week but it seems to be almost daily now and I’ve lost 4 lbs this week .
I have no clue why, anyone out there experienced the same ?

Hi. Recovery isn’t a linear process and while some things get better it’s possible certain things get worse. I’d keep track of what foods cause it (eg dairy) and portion size I’d that has changed. If it continues and there’s no clear pattern as to cause, I’d call your surgeon for advice very soon. Good luck and be well.
Thanks Brett, I’m going to keep a diary to see if there’s a pattern. I don’t and can’t eat frequently as lots of us do so perhaps I do need to review portion size to see if that makes a difference, but I don’t eat huge amounts now. It’s a funny bloated feeling in my upper chest and lump in my throat.
Hi Deeedals, have you introduced anything new to your diet? I’m 12 months post op and still now and again something makes me sick. I have to avoid anything with tomato skins and sometimes I don’t realise they are in something and I’m so sick after. I also have never felt hungry since surgery. A diary of everything you eat, when your sick and how long after you’ve eaten would be good. Give your nurse or dietitian a call. Hope things settle down soon. Xx
Yes thanks for the reply. I did think about a diary as it’s happening more frequently. There’s nothing new that I can think of that’s upsetting my stomach but I will start to write it down and see if a pattern emerges.
Hi - I’d speak to your specialist nurse as it’s a new thing - I’m 6 and a half years post op and have been left with zero appetite and my eating is a regimental routine - all the best x
Hi, Dee. Please see your doctor. This does not sound right. It could be that food is not moving through your stomach as it should. I understand that sometimes happens with people who have had "the op". You may need medication to speed it up.
That's completely understandable and I would probably feel the same in your shoes. But don't think of it as defeat - rather think of it as just another stage in your recovery. It's a long process and sometimes takes more time than we would like.
Do chat to the nurse I have had a few stretches years on. One because I was told I hadn't starved after a failed endoscopy for Barratts, and I hadn't eaten solids for 2 days. The surgeon said I had mushrooms in my tummy which I hadn't eaten for 4 days. You are doing really well it's not defeat it's management which goes on for ever 💕
I am now almost 11 years post-op and just do not enjoy food. I eat to live and that's all - very little enjoyment. I have always accepted that as compensation for the fact that I am still alive. A bit sad but there it is.
Hi, thanks for your concern. Everything seems to have settled down again so whether it was something I’d eaten that didn’t agree or just one of the little quirks that happens from time to time 🙄
