I have the same but mine is a rolling hernia (paraesophageal). Ppi’s don’t work and give me so many side effects after a while. I take DGL, bicarbonate of soda, digestive enzymes and slippery elm but it never cures it. Things that make it much worse are alcohol, chocolate, fatty foods, tomatoes, mint, any carbonated drinks, fruit juices and anything acidic. I am also mostly gluten and dairy free. So diet may help some people but as my hernia is fixed then I never get relief. So much pain in my sternum. I don’t get any help from doctors as they say there is nothing they can do. The only possible solution is a Nissan fundoplication operation or lynx surgery but there are very mixed reviews. I am awaiting a phone call from a gastroenterologist atm. They are not doing gastroscopies without a telephone call first!! Good luck with yours and try to speak with them before you get the tube down your throat. You might get more advice out of them. Let us know how you get on.

Some links from OPA to read further on Fundoplication surgery and LINX band

for the large grade or sliding HH anti reflux surgery (Nissen Fundoplication part or full360 deg)may be most helpful. and for smaller grade LINX can be effective.

Yours is a complex case and can no be generalised.

From my (unqualified) view it is evident to me that the point for lifestyle and day to day management (medicinal) is way past in your specific case and requires a root cause fix. surgical fix is to protect you against further respiratory complications, even if its means taking a calculated subjective risk on the potential success on the surgical fix.

As usual stranger danger on the forum, use your discretion please.
