Worrying endoscopy results

This must be a worrying time for you. I suffered from Achalasia and in September 2017 I had a routine gastroscopy, as suggested by my physician. From this it was discovered that I had high grade dysplasia. I chose to have an oesophagectomy rather than wait to see what might develop. Now almost two and half years post op I feel fine and whilst there are obviously side effects from this big operation I have learnt to live with the new norm.
There are treatments available - radio frequency ablation etc - before you need to have your esophagus removed. Your dr should advise.
I am ever the optimist and I would say this is actually good news- so many people know nothing of their likely route until they are told it is too late - you , like myself, have been given a great opportunity to control your own destiny to an extent- you need to listen to what the doctors and particularly your upper GI consultant has to say and then make an informed decision- I decided over 10 years ago that if I did nothing this would undoubtedly turn to cancer and then more than likely kill me - something I was not willing to accept - so after discussions it was decided that I would have an oesophagectomy something I have never regretted- We have a family history of cancer- my brother with Stomach cancer (as a child!) my sister with pancreatic that killed her last year, other sister with vaginal cancer and nephews with varying sorts - A family trait I wish i didnt have- but I am now over 10 years post op and am living life to the full - mt advice is listen to what people are saying, then make YOUR decision mine was simple - I was going to be as aggressive with it as it would be with me - I wish you every success whatever decision YOU make and if you want to have a private chat thats OK too cheers Ray
I had the same about 3 years ago and a small t1 cancer was found which was removed via EMR and I have had 7 lots of radio frequency ablation, have check ups every 6 months but so far all is well and the Barrett’s has completely gone. Certainly no need to have an oesophagectomy at this point, I would agree that this isn’t a bad thing as it’s been found and can be treated and you will me monitored in the future.
Easy to say but stay positive I know it's a difficult time as you just want it done but there is no point worrying about things you can't control. I did lots of research into EMR and RFA so I understood what the doctor's were talking about and to be honest I didn't find it too bad, it was a bit uncomfortable while having the procedure but I decided I would eat and drink as normal the following day and never had any problems, have had 2 EMR's and neither have been an issue...Why are you having an EMR have they found a suspicious area?
Yes abnormal area about 1cm on the surface said it would turn into cancer if not removed but he doesn’t know if there’s anything underneath the surface till they do the EMR and the biopsy’s they did on my endoscopy were too small as well , I have researched the EMR not scared of that or anything it’s just the waiting to see what the results are going to be but thank you I am a positive person anyway so hopefully that will get me through what’s ever going to come x
