Hi all just wanted a bit of feed back .... my mum had the Ivor Lewis operation nearly 2 years ago few complications etc .... when she sits on the floor she struggles getting back on her feet like she has no strength in her legs is this normal ?? She literally has to crawl to hold on to something to get up. Anyone else have this trouble ?
Strength : Hi all just wanted a bit of... - Oesophageal & Gas...
Strength
I was so weak after the op I lost all my core body strength, I used to lift beer barrels and large boxes filled with files around before my op. I lost 3 stone in weight, a lot of muscle as well as all my body fat. I was 48 at the time now 10 years on I'm still not as strong, and can't do lots I used to do, It took years to regain my core body strength. At two years post end of treatment I was still planning my energy as I was and still am like a Duracell bunny, when the batteries run out. You never really return to how you where before you just get used to doing things differently. Take care
Agree with Liz on loss of core strength die to weight loss. It's a new normal.
I was completely wasted in the hospital due to coma for a month and had to be brought home in wheelchair and learn everything from scratch like a baby. I was 40 when had oesophagectomy now I am 2 years post os. Having said that doing physical work will tite me out more.
Apart from muscle wastage in your mother's legs, possibly underlying conditions, if any may be joining in as well.
Yes, I'm 19 months post op and I can just about manage 1 hr in the garden jet washing, mowing etc then that's my lot as Liz says below just get used to your new 'life' and work round it as best as possible.
keep well Jeff
