Acid reflux

Last week while on holiday in the Lake District I had an awful experience. We had fone a 4mile walk and called in the local pub for a drink. I had a hot chocolate and after 15 minutes I had to run to the loo, diahorea and sickness. This continued for the rest of the day along with hot and cold sweats so I had to got to bed to rest. This spoilt my holiday as I had very little energy for the rest of the week and was pleased to get home on Saturday. I contacted my GP this morning to re-new my prescription and told him how I felt and he wasn't interested. Anyone else had this sort of experience or is it a one and do I have to suffer in silence??

Hi Tiny, I have had this experience with hot chocolate and Mochas too. I find anything with

a high sugar content just goes straight through me. I had my oesophagectomy in July 2018

I see you are past oesophagectomy for more than 10 years. Congratulations.

Physical exertion is known for bowels to dump most times for survivors.

Also sugar in excess causes the dumping, especially diarrhoea. These are all known conditions and very very common amongst oesophagectomy survivors.

The approach is to ensure you avoid the trigger foods liquids when out and about so as to not experience the dumping.

I find that Sugar and dairy products cause dumping for me,I'm now six months in from my op but I still daren't go out for a meal or even round to a friends house for anything to eat.

Would not have a hot chocolate even at home.

Couldn't tell you when I had an immodium free day.

My husband has these reactions sometimes if he has a coffee and cake, usually something g sweet brings it on. A kind of dumping syndrome maybe. I can't believe the speed it goes through!

Definitely not alone. I wouldn't risk hot chocolate. I have soya milk lattes. Risked a cows milk one the other morning and it went straight through. Too much sugar can have the same affect
