Nissen fundoplication is not a good solution for gerd. Many researchers have said that gerd is more to do with gut motility than LES damage. Nissen fundoplication only addresses LES damage. Which means main part of the problem is not addressed.

Anyway, try changing dietary lifestyle. Have more fruits and salads in your diet. It should help.

Hi Munishaggarwal, I know this is a very old thread but I was wondering where you'd read this? That GERD is due to gut motility and Nissen only addresses LES issues? I've never heard this before and I'm currently exploring Nissen for GERD issues. Thanks so much.

Oak321, I have heard this before from a girl who had laryngeal reflux (LRS). She was told it's to do with that. The Liverpool University hospital advises to taper off PPIs slowly i.e. if on say 20 mg X 2 day, go to 10mg x 2 day for two months taking Gaviscon Advance after meals & before bed aswell. Then half again (dose dependent) then for 2 months & Gav Adv then minimum dosage taken before T with Gaviscon Advance each meal for 2 months then continue with Gav Adv. Then can use ppi as an additional when required but never stop PPIs cold turkey as it can cause the rebound affect and be worse. Hope that is of some help

Hi I had the procedure 3 days ago and was told to stop all PPIs immediately and I was on one morning and night. Was a bit concerned about this but haven't taken any but have a feeling of pressure around my bust area and belching and phlegm when I am drinking. Didn't want to panick as I am not sure how it should feel. X
