My partner had the Ivor Lewis in November 2017. He has been making steady progress but still has a fistula from the operation into his lung.

He was doing really well with recovering but lately has been suffering with extreme tiredness. He has levelled at 65kg but I am worried this tiredness is serious.

What are your experiences with this?

I understand it may be something simple like low iron levels due to reduced food intake.

It might be worth having his vitamin B12 levels checked. My husband has B12 injections every 3 months and they make a big difference to his energy levels. An iron supplement could also help.

Thank you.

I seem to panic about everything as tiredness is a side affect of the treatment but you also worry about reoccurance.

Sounds like you’re doing really well. Following his treatment (surgery and chemo) his energy levels are going to take time to return. 1 year on I can nap for Britain as I often feel tired. As suggested get his vitamin levels tested. His reduced digestion means he doesn’t always get the best from the food he eats. Plenty of fibre, fruit and veg, fluids and a daily multi vitamin plus regular exercise. It takes time but it’s starting to work for me. Best of luck Tanktank

I had my op in Sept 17 and I get spells where I am endlessly tired. I have regular blood tests to check iron levels etc. I think it is hard to get a truly balanced diet when you have to eat in bits. I know I could if I devoted enough time and effort to planning it but that would probably rule out most of the "life" I now manage. You can take a banana or cereal bar out with you but not the other half of your dinner!
