Osophagal cancer diagnosis

Hi just found out that the cancer is now in my liver & lungs & there is no hope, I've got about 3 months but if I have chemo can possibly extend this by a couple more, has anyone got any advice as too whether this is worth it?

I can’t imagine what you’re going through. My best advice is to weigh the pros and cons with your family. Is 3 months completely healthy and happy best for you and for them, or extending but being a little ill? Talk with your doctor and see if there is any support group where you can reach out to others who have gone through this also. I wish you so much love, and many hugs and prayers across the miles! Hi there. I’m so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was recently diagnosed with a secondary tumour and I was devastated about that. So it’s hard to imagine just how difficult it must be for you. Whether or not you do the chemo I think could depend upon how it affects you. I have had three cycles and it made my life miserable, just awful. But perhaps it doesn’t impact on you as much. If I need further chemo treatment I’m not sure that I would take it myself. Its impossible to know until the situation arises for oneself. Having said that we hear stories of people that have treatment and have fantastic results outliving the doctors predictions. At the end of the day it’s your decision and everyone should support you in it, whichever way you decide. I’m thinking of you and sending you love and peace. Paul.

My husband is at the same stage as you we got the news in January after a year of chemo failed surgery and radiotherapy which only made things worse we have given just months so we are just taking one day at a time my heart goes out to you at such a difficult time we are hoping my husband does get longer take care x

So sad to read this, as others have said it depends how you react to the chemo, for me it was a terrible experience, it did shrink the tumor but I was almost on my knees and it was stopped after 2 of the 3 four week sessions. Some cope with it well, I hope you are able to make a decision that you and your family are comfortable with. Our thoughts are with you at this terrible time and we hope you are able to enjoy each day what ever you decide.

Hi I’m so sorry to hear your diagnosis. I am not sure what i would do, there are as Tlynn says pros and cons to both routes. Chemo affects people so differently and it does depend what regime you have too. You might want to have a look at Charlie’s circle, the other OPA community on here. It has members who are on a palliative or dealing with a recurrance of cancer.

Hi I can't tell you how sorry I am that really sad my mom was giving 6 weeks her also went to her lungs and that brain later they put her chem o she lost her hair a little nuasted they have stuff for that and she died in 6 months it was good days can bad I treasuredit one yo the end it up to you what you choose I will pray for you for a comfortable days to follow biggest hug to you

This is a hard one to call. What would your quality of life be with the chemo? This is the time you need to get everything in order and let everyone you love that you love them. Make peace with anyone you need to make peace with. Basically get ready to leave this life and move on to the next one where there is no more pain, tears, sorrows, nor suffering. Ditto with all the comments about pros and cons etc and sorrow for you and yours.

My advice is get as long as you can get with whatever drugs or chemo is available, sometimes things do change. Spend as much time as you can with the people you love, and no time with people who constantly empathise and can only talk about your illness.

Good luck with what time you have left, I am 3 years post op and have now got asbestos lung problems but i'm not about to give up or go quietly. (Ha Ha, i'll be wheezing).

Rage against it. Swear at it and I just hope you can get some pleasure from your remaining time. Try to think of something you want to do whilst you still can.

Ghastly news.

Since you have metastases in two difficult locations it may be too optimistic to expect that chemo will be successful in both organs.

If it was me I would opt for being as well as possible for as long as possible particularly if you have young children.

In my own case the secondary was 'just' in one lung. I had barely noticed the cisplatin chemo first time around but declined a second course. After beating the professionals over the head I was eventually fortunate enough in obtaining further surgery. That cost me a lung and several ribs BUT that was 9 years ago. What else can I say?

I would like to think I wouldn't do chemo. Doctors can be wrong on the timeline. But then again, I could think differently if given such dire news.

Your mindset will play a huge role in your quality of life going forward. I do know that much.

I was diagnosed with lower esophagus/upper stomach cancer Dec/2018 stage4 which has spread to my liver lungs and lymph nodes.Idid radiation/chemo.Mine is Her 2 positive in which Iam now on Herceptin which is given for breast cancer.Other than being tired low energy Iam still here.Ask if their is any trials out there,if theyre is try them .Good luck.God Bless
