Domperidone - has it worked? Scared to try it due to the side effects

Hi, I have been given a prescription for domperidone but i am scared to take it. I was instructed to take it to prove whether i have silent reflux or not. I am quite uneasy with the side effects mentioned. Has it stopped anyone from coughing? The other reflux tablets have done nothing. Many thanks

Hi Jonathon! My husband is prescribed this under the name Motllium. He takes it for a short while post chemo for nausea and it works well for him. He has not reported any adverse side effects. Best wishes, Kate

Hi there. Like Kate, my husband took Domperidone during and after his chemo. No adverse side-effects. To be honest, during his first chemo, it was brilliant for his nausea (not so much the post-surgery chemo, but no surprise there, where the anti-nausea stakes were upped massively). Re. the cough. My husband is nearly 6 months post-surgery, and the cough is there. Sometimes worse than at other times. It may get better, it may never go, seems it's part of this journey. He upped his reflux tabs, then reduced them again as it made no difference. So the cough, it's annoying, but it's there. As you say, it might be silent reflux (hence the reflux tabs), but not sure what Domperidone might do, but I'd give it a go to see? After all you've been through, you never know. What we do know is that everyone's journey down this road, is slightly different. Good luck, keep going! Debs.

I suppose it depends on how much you trust your doctor doesn't it!

It is something that a good many people take, but follow the instructions carefully especially re taking it at the right interval before food. If you give it a good, honest try and it does not work, go back to the doctor and explain.

Try and relax when you are eating, as tension does not help digestion at the best fo times (but I know that is easier said than done).
