If you have a feeling that food is stuck in your chest area, you should go to the doctor to get checked out. It might well be that you need an endoscopy, a miniature camera put down your throat, to establish whether or not you have a condition that is causing some form of blockage.

You have not given much detail about the feeling, but it is important to establish the causes of these things. If you feel that the doctor is not taking it seriously you could always mention that this is one of the symptoms featured in Public Health England's Be Clear on Cancer campaign. Most likely it is not cancer, but the system is there to diagnose things quickly.

Hi Gail

As Alan says, straight to the doctor please. Probably nothing but best to check that it is nothing serious. There is a fast track system to get an endoscopy if the GP is worried.

There are various national campaigns at them moment to encourage people to visit their drs if they are having swallowing difficulties

Good luck
