Dad's pre op

Hi, my Dad went for his pre op today and all is well. His surgeon has said that he does the op in 4-4 1/2 hours which is half the time we were expecting. How can the time taken to perform this surgery vary so much?

Oh gosh. That's a huge difference to my Dads! It was 9 and a half hours!

I suppose as every patient is different, every surgeon is too?!

It does depend on exactly where the problems are, and whether individual patients have complications. Some surgeons are quicker than others. Keyhole surgery tends to take longer but the times for this are reducing, I believe.

Well I guess we'll find out next week anyway. Spoke to him today and he says bizarrely, that he's almost excited about the op, kind of like it's an adventure he's going on! He's looking at it like a challenge I think and one he is determined to beat 🙂
