Hi All.

I haven't been on here for quite a while but i would like to share that I am now 10 years post op. I am doing this because I would like people who have been recently diagnosed or just had surgery to know that there can be light at the end of the tunnel, and there are lots of people who had their ops even longer ago than this.

I am lying in a hospital bed nervously awaiting my op in around 12 hours. Cheered me up seeing this post

Good Luck and hopefully you'll soon be looking forward to a cancer free recovery

It is quite a hard road but it will get better all the time.

I am eighteen months post op and I just wanted to wish you all the best.

Waking up afterwards will be a new experience, but don't worry too much all will be well

Hi I'm just 4 years post op and life is brilliant, good luck with the recovery. As the saying goes "time is a great healer" be patient and you will be fine

Thanks haward, Yes you do wonder, but I like the saying today is the first day of the rest of your life. I don't always remember it but when I do it makes me think more positively.

2.5 years post op for me now. Wow. Every day I thank the wonderful James Gossage and his fabulous medical team at St Thomas's. Life is good. Different but good.

Mr Robert Page did my surgery at the then Broad Green. I owe him everything Bruce.

I am nearly 8 years post op and am thankful everyday for the care of John Wayman and Cumberland Infirmary. I have 2 wonderful grandsons I thought I would never live to see and as others have said although the 'journey' is not easy life is good. As Bruce says different but good!

Yes champagnelover, I have twin grandaughters of 6 and a half and one of 14. Things like that make a huge difference.

Hi Steve

Like you I had my operation with Richard Page a really great surgeon at Broad Green Liverpool nearly 11 years ago. Life is still challenging but very good.

There more of us than ever before reaching and passing the 10 year hurdle, Sept 2006 was my date, just goes to show how the surgery has progressed over the years.

September 2006 was the month I was told I had this cancer I was 32 at diagnosis and went on to have chemo, marry, have a total esophaghagectomy with every complication going then have my two children who are 5 and 7...it is a new normal but we are still here.

Hi SteveJ - this is such refreshing news! Especially as I am still only 6 weeks post-op and already wishing time away. I am hoping that I can get back to a 'new normal' eventually - I hope to see that light at the end of the tunnel soon!

Well done, gives hope to all those starting out on this new journey. A different lifestyle but the rewards carrying on with life are tremendous, focuses the mind on today and not tomorrow. 1994 seems a long time ago now but against all the odds I'm still here, well passed my sell by date !! Look forward to your next post possibly 5yrs time? sally
