10 months post op and still strugglin... - Oesophageal & Gas...
10 months post op and still struggling to put on weight! got up to 11st 7 Ibs but cant get above.Eating better the last 3 weeks at last.
Wow - wish I was that weight. All depends upon starting point.
I am a constant 9 stone 4 lb give or take a few pounds and have ben since my op 10 years ago. My fighting weight before op was about 10.5 - 11 stone but had to watch weight as It could creep up. I built it up to 13.5 before op and then dropped to 8.25 in the months after before gaining to my present weight and stabalising. Don't worry too much it will sort itself out. The most important thing is to be healthy, and enjoy your food. Hpe this helps Phil
Cheers Phil.Shan"t worry myself about it then.Cheers Phil its helps greatly.Great your now 10 years on
Hi Griff,
depending on your height of course, that sounds fairly reasonable to me?? I am female, weighed 10.4 dropped to 7.4 after surgery. Wept a lot at the loss of my curves! Now hovering at 7.13 so a gain of nearly half a stone after 18months since surgery. I too seem to have stabilized and finally got rid of all the larger clothes and spent a fortune on sizes 10-12 ones. I never actually get hungry but eat sensibly because I know I must! Well most of the time anyway. They say that at 18 months post op, its the best you will be after surgery regarding weight, health etc. I am resigned to my lifestyle now and have pretty much accepted all the compromises and limitations as a price one has to pay for getting a second chance to see my grandchildren grow up hopefully. Not an easy road to go down though, we all have lots of ups and downs I'm sure. All fingers crossed! Best wishes.
Charlie.
THanks for your reply.Cheers
Hi Griff,
I am 10 years post op and still have my ups and downs. It does get better after time. I dropped 25 pounds of my 125 frame. It took about a year and a half to finally stabalize. Remember, eat as well as you can and what you can. Don't worry you will bounce back in time!
Thanks for the replies.Puts my mind at rest.Have only just found this site (been using Macmillan site) Looks like this is a good site.Cheers all
Griff
Thanks for reply. It does help
Try not to think that putting on weight, or trying to regain your original weight, has anything to do with how healthy you are! It might be a wardrobe problem, but as long as you are feeling OK it may just be that you will settle down to a new and lower 'normal' weight. If you try and push yourself into eating more to try and gain weight you will end up abusing your new digestion system and it will let you know about it in no uncertain terms! Some people lose 6 stone in this process but are still OK!
Thanks Alan
I've had trouble getting my weight back up but in the last couple of weeks I've noticed an increase in weight and the only difference is in my activity. I've become very action doing everything including long hard walks and manual stuff and I've been getting hungry and the weight has gone up. Maybe its best to start working hard. Also been eating more meat!
To be honest I am very active, walking ,biking, weight training etc but doesnt make any difference.Sure it will get better though.Cheers medway
Ooh Charlie it is as if I wrote this for me! You must look good size 10 to 12!
Do you get "you need to eat more, comments like that?
Irritates me, dont listen to why you cant gain weight! ha
Griff I cannot gain weight, tried and worked on it for so long (with dietitian's too) listened to my surgeons words in his experience slight women to start with tend not to.
I was only 8 stone 4 size 10, before the op I am now 6 stone10 size 4 to 6. I have to monitor my weight if I use too much energy I can loose pounds.
I have mastered it now (almost 5 years) don't worry, just do as much as I can, then take to resting doing nothing gain the few pounds back!
Lucky you Mr fat man! ha ha
Cheers Cheryl. Will take it on board.I was never fat before just well built as did fitness things etc.I could lose pounds if under the weather and not eating proper
Cheers Griff x
Some people do have a bit of a problem maintaining their weight in the winter. It is sometimes to do with how the 'new' digestion system absorbs nutrition. I think you probably become more conscious of your weight than a size 0 model, and the big thing is to try and ensure that you keep the nutrition up. As a back up option, you might think about the nutrition-type drinks as a temporary measure.
How you feel is more important than how you look, but it can't be too much to want both, can it!
Thanks Alan, I laughed at me more conscious than a size 0 model.
I have winter all year with my weight. I do keep up the nutrition, eating.
Unfortunatly whatever goes in does not take that long to come back out.
I had all the tests, dietitian's, menu's etc etc. I was put back together again perfect.
It is one of those "everyone different" My lower bowel does not like being a stomach. Don't mention the drinks, trully do not agree with me before and after the op. ha
I work on how I feel now, got used to how I look!
I wrote that to Griff remembering my old days and worrying! ha
I agree those drinks work better than any laxative. I can't digest any high calorie foods they upset me so much. I live on dry crumpets n oven chips. I'm not under weight yet but I'm lucky if I digest 500 calories a day I'm not very active at the moment and worry what I will be like when I'm more active. I'm dairy intolerant so calories are few. I had always been overweight so tried to eat healthy now I miss my fruit n salads, but can't fill myself up with food that is low calorie. I'm struggling to drink enough as most of my day is full of trying to eat.
I wish I could put on weight? I was ten and a half stone before my op but I have managed to reach an all time low of seven stone twelve just last week I think I was 10 years old last time I was this weight.
Its not all bad though I'm back to work working four days a week now
You just have to keep pushing forward? mind over matter?
