I’m 43 and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on Thursday . It’s in my left ankle as back in 2002 I broke it in 4 places and dislocated it had to have metal work in it. My issues are made worse by complications of bacterial meningitis with sepsis. Currently waiting on an appointment for pain management. But I contacted them as I was told to and was told it’s going to be 4 to 5 months as they have only just got to the June referrals . I was referred in August. Doctors won’t prescribe pain meds as I’m allergic to codine. And the said I have to wait until my pain management appointment.any tips to ease the pain

have a discussion with a pharmacist - either the one employed at your doctor’s group of surgeries or a dispensing pharmacist. I’m a bit surprised your doc has left you in limbo.
I’m allergic to codine so he’s unwilling to prescribe anything else . I’m currently on amitriptlyne for sleep issues and depression, and they said pain but it doesn’t work
I was in much the same position as you 14 months ago, left 5 months with a suddenly useless and painful/inflamed foot which wouldn't flex any way at all. I tried Capsicum cream, which prior to patients having to buy OTC meds themselves was recommended for OA by NICE and prescribed by the NHS. The mechanism works by switching off pain receptors and reducing inflammation with no side effects - it saved my sanity!
First, where do you live?Second, is the pain limited to the ankle area?
If you can get a strong (3000mg) CBD cream to put on it this should give you some relief.
Would they give you a steroid injection in your ankle? That might be worth a try I also have OA in my left ankle and I have found an ankle support sock very helpful. And have you tried the Versus Arthritis website? They have a lot of helpful information on there.
