Hi everyone I have been recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis I'm new to all of this and I am really struggling with the pain associated with it. I'm only in my early 30s and it'stook around 7 years for diagnosis as I keep being told I'm too young for this or that.
I'm hoping I will be able to pick up on some tips and useful information.

I'm going to have another more in depth look later this evening as I am also carer to 4 members of family and I'm so frightened that I'm not going to be able to continue.
There is a lot that can be done to help you, perhaps once you had a chance to read a bit more try contacting versusarthritis - they have a chat facility - and perhaps they could put you in touch with what’s available locally.

I have OA in my knees too. I think it was there long before I was diagnosed. My thoughts about your worry about not being able to continue are that the pain can be helped but I doubt that the fact you have had it for seven years will automatically get worse - if that makes sense - because if you keep going, that's got to be better for your joints than giving up . Hope you can find an effective, non-addictive pain management that suits you.
well I definetly can't give up another household added to list today for me to care for. I do walk and I'm definetly not going to be addicted to meds as they give me any
I was just about to reply when I saw Dorset Lady's response - with which I totally agree.
One of my cousins was diagnosed with arthritis and had both hips "done" by age 40. He's seventy now and can still continue, to a limited extent, his profession as plumber.
My mother had arthritis by age 40 and had to give up knitting as it hurt her hands too much. She was renowned locally for going out for a walk each day - or should I say "striding" out for a walk - until her mid-eighties.
So don't give up, keep positive.
thank you for your response and good advise and experience I hope that I am able to continue I'm very active usually but the pain is getting harder to deal with I have osteoarthritis in my hand shoulders and knees i have a shortening on my lower back on the first and a very straight spine no natural curve.
I also suffer with gout in my feet and have fluid on my knees too. Rheumatology say I have fibromyalgia and the orthopedic doctor thinks I have hyper mobility ehlers danlos syndrome so I am stuck in between what's the best way to gabout everything is there anything for pain relief. I can not take cocodamol as one medication but can take paracetamol and the 3 0 mins later take codiene but gp won't prescribe it. I can't take ibuprofen medications due to my asthma and having severe asthma attacks when I take it. So been trying to see if other medication is available to help.
I'm quiet active I go for works, and visit new places all of the time. I care for 4 members of the family 2 live with me and 2 have their own properties so I'm always between 3 or 4 households too.
wow that is hard, TheOwl. It’s very difficult get medication that gets to the bottom of the pain. I’m fortunate that my own GP did an extra degree in pain management. I was suffering from osteoarthritis but this was exacerbated by the fact that a pill I was taking (to prevent or delay recurrence of cancer) itself causes muscle and joint pain. My doc gave me a trial of different things, a month at a time, and we ended up with Butec (look it up) which for me does the trick. Doesn’t take all the pain away but allows me to lead a normal life.
Your pharmacist might be a good person to talk to about pain relief. Many high street pharmacists do stints in local hospitals and as such they advise hospital doctors on appropriate medication.
ive spoke to the pharmacy nothing they can do keep sending back to gp even went to the special physio yesterday and was told I would have to do 6months of I tense physio the physio discharged me said nothing he can do for me
