Thanks for the great, and very true quote Celena: )
This is actually quite true and more common than many may realise.
Its like saying "I'll be happier when xyz is finished" or
"I'll be happy/happier when my exams/ this project/that meeting/summer comes"
All too often, on seeing that quote you kindly posted (and well chosen) I've remembered so many times back. over my life when I've said about happiness at a future time or date.
I know I must have said it as a youngster too, as I remember my mam saying to me "Stop wishing your life away".
I think I must still do it now. I've been in touch with the Pain Management team to find put when I'm likely to get an appointment, and how long their waiting list is, I was told I can expect to get a letter around June time this year. So as I sit saying "I'll be happier when I've started being seen by them", I'm postponing my happiness, or part of it. For all I know, the letter could tell me the appointment date is another 6 months away, then I realise how I've postponed my happiness (and relief) for that one date, only to find I put "being happier" on hold for yet another wait.
Another saying my mam used a lot was "A watched kettle never boils"
meaning where 5 minutes can feel like 5 hours, or 5 days feels like 5 weekending we're waiting for something before we allow ourselves to be happier, but as Celena's post says (in a round about way), why put off being happy until that certain time, date or event? It'll come around much sooner if you're busy being happy and having fun now not to notice the time or dates.
Words I need to remember myself!
Anyone else found themselves saying the same, or similar to me?
