People often assume many things around food e.g eating healthily is boring or party food is always bad for you. Such conditioned views don't tend to be helpful. Expand your mind as this is where it's all at - and explore flavours and delicious dishes.

It's my birthday coming up soon and I'm hosting friends for a birthday brunch. I'll share with you my menu as it's so tasty - let it inspire you too!

Big green frittata - an egg based dish so suitable for vegetarians. Packed with grated courgette, peas, onions, garlic, parsley and sprinkled with cheese on top to set off a golden top, this is a wonderful addition to any breakfast feast

Guacamole - we all know how hugely prevalent avocado now is on any brunch menu. Adding a bowl of guac to the breakfast table adds in fabulous essential fatty acids, great for the skin. I make it with onions, garlic, red chilli, avocado, plenty of fresh lime juice and season with sea salt and pepper. Cumin also goes well as does paprika for that extra bite. And of course swirl in a generous handful of chopped coriander.

Banana bread - after completing the four week Gut Makeover by wonderful Jeannette Hyde, I fell in love with making banana bread with ground almonds. Made with bananas, a dash of cold pressed honey, ground almonds and flax seeds, this really is comfort food at its best.

Beans on toast - a traditional dish especially in England. using pinto beans soaked overnight and then cooked with warming spices of cumin and smokey paprika, add in a bit of cabbage for extra nourishment alongside some onions and fresh tomatoes and you have a tasty and filling version of beans. Pop on a slice of organic sourdough if bread is featuring for you. Go easy though on wheat flour products and limit them.

Fabulous Fridge Cake - one must have some cake action on your birthday. This is not a cake in a traditional sense but it absolutely is packed with date sweetness and really does hit that sweet spot for sure. A base of dates blended with seeds, pure cocoa powder, currants, coconut oil - placed in a tray and sprinkled with chopped walnuts and then refrigerated - a wholesome version of chocolate fridge cake and equally mouth watering
