Hi everybody I hope you are all feeling ok today on this very WET rainy day ..where did spring go?
Things on my mind so have turned to my trusted rhumi friends - I have been on 15mg methx since Sept and was fine with it but its not enough as I am still experiencing probs with my hip , hands and somtimes neck so my rhumi nurse who is so nice and patient increased to 20mg pretty standard stuff .... Unfortunatley i have a hiatus hernia like Sylvie and have not had probs ( heartburn etc) with it for a long time but the 2 extra methx tabs really have aggravated it even with the 30mg lansaprozole i take for it :(( .So am now switiching to 17.5 injections from next Friday, feel it will be better for me as by passes the stomach but must say am a little nervous. Apart from the hernia being irritated and my periods being irregular I have no other side effects, been really lucky do you think I'll be the same on the injections ... Its all swings n roundabouts isnt it ?!
Am changing all my hours at work too as finding 4 full days a week , kids , shopping and every other mummy thing all a bit knackering at the mo ...Im sure it will all settle and sort itself out but tough going eh people? Oh well its Friday small glasses of wine day and curry yay ... Claire xx

xx Read my blog back and it ended with a small glass of wine and curry and everybody is thinking NOOOOOOOO not with a hiatus hernia , but as you know I can eat anything and am fine its just the naughty little tablets that make me feel yuk the day i take them after that it calms down but injectable is still a better option ...we'll see eh matey x
Yes its much better and significantly more effective for the RA too I've found. I did find nausea went away for first months but then returned plus horrid taste too. But then i take Hydroxy too. I'm experimenting now with GP's blessing and think that the nausea might be the interaction with Hydroxy for me and the bad taste that I've been blaming on MTX may well be secondary Sjogrens so don't mind me. I find it dead easy now but advice I received is to pinch the site (my belly) just before injecting and then you don't feel a thing.
You will be fine I promise - less daunting to me than all those little tablets now! Xxx
Hi ya, i started on mtx injections today, at 17.5mg. Really nothing to worry about, I didn't even feel anything. The nurse told me what to do, and answered any questions i had. I've had to switch to injectables as I too had been having stomach problems. Usually within an hour of taking the tablets, i had a fuzzy head - but today nothing! But im sure if you didn't feel confident with doing it your self, a nurse at your GP surgery would be willing to help xx
Claire, you will find the injections a lot easier to do. The injection is easy to do,until i had trouble with chest twelve months ago i was on injections and all i did was put it straight into my tummy and it was over as easy as that. All the drugs i have been on haven't affected my hiatus hernia at all. Let me know how you get on with the injections. sylvia.xxx
I'm a total needle wuss, and had sleepless nights before I started doing MTX by injections....and now I just stab away like anything with no problem at all. And it's made side effects go away. Just take it slowly to start with and remember to breathe. Polly
Good luck Claire. hope it is much better for you x,
Tilda... hydroxy and amitriptyline give a "funny"taste in mouth... sjorgens would almost certianly be tastless more dry!!, I am sure that you GP is very happy to let you"experiment", though it makes you sound a little like the "mad professor". good luck x
I dont have a hiatus hernia so cant comment on that side, but I do have a very sensitive stomach (on the verge of irritable bowel). I had MTX gradually increased to 25mg but found the nausea really bad. I even tried split dose of tablets (which I would NOT recommend) before moving to MTX 25mg injectable.
I too was nervous at first. I dont like injections and did make my nurse laugh when I closed my eyes and looked away as I was about to stab myself! but it was not so bad. I will be honest it does sting a little for a few moments after the dose is administered, but that is all it is (a slight sting) and it is so worth it to not feel permanently nauseous, and it has improved my RA symptoms loads too.
Thank you so glad your symptoms have improved ...and yep I'm quite happy for the sting if it makes me feel better too ..just want to get started now C x
