On Methotrexate and last blood test showed my liver A... - NRAS
On Methotrexate and last blood test showed my liver ALT level at 78 (Range 0-40). What does this mean anyone else had this?
Well the most obvious reason would be that your liver isn't happy with the Methotrexate at the moment (unless of course you've been wicked & had more alcohol than you should!). But the only people who can really tell you what this most likely means for you personally are your GP, Rheumy etc.
Do contact a doctor or nurse if you haven't done so already. But I've got a feeling that there's no need to panic - these tests are the only way of keeping a check on how the liver is doing but even though your ALT is higher than it should be at them moment it probably doesn't mean that there is anything seriously wrong.
Let us know what your doctor says,
Hope it's all okay, Luce x
It's a bit higher than it should be but this is fairly common with people on MTX. Mine was up at 85 at the last rise but came down the next week to within normal range. It was well over 100 for a bit when I had my first rise in dose and my GP was convinced i wasn't going to be able to stay on it but I dropped a few doses and slowly it came back down and then slowly I was able to rise in dose again. Please don't worry it will probably come down again next time it's tested and speak to your rheumy nurse or GP about getting extra tests within a few weeks I think - but try to avoid alcohol completely if you don't already. Hiya, My ALT at one point was 100, That was before i started Methorexate, At the time i was taking meloxicam and was told to stop taking them for a few weeks to see if there was any change, as they didn't want me to start methorexate until my results were better, the following results showed that my ALT had dropped to 49 so they started me on my meds, With my GP if there is a problem they would arrange another blood test to be done asap,
I don't know how often you have your blood taken at the moment, but if it is every two weeks, wait until your next results, if not maybe contract your surgery and ask to speak to a nurse or doctor, if you are really concerned, but i was always told from my friends on here that 100 wasn't that high, so take care XX
If you want to be safe, then phone your rheumatology nurse or GP, and leave a message saying what your latest ALT is, and ask if you need to change anything at the moment. That will just make sure they have read the report, and it will take the responsibility away from you to make any decisions. Bear in mind that they won't be just looking at that one single result - if everything else is completely normal, then it may not be quite so significant.
Thanks for all your comments, I saw my gp on friday afternoon and she told me it was nothing to worry about but I do have another set of bloods to be taken in two weeks so we will se if theres any change.
