Hi Alison, Have already been down that route on 3rd set orthotics, seeing lower limb ortho surgeon in June just wondering, has anyone had this type of surgery and what their experiences were? Hallux Valgus surgery! Oh the thoughts is scaring me, but I need to have it done, will have to come off all Rheum meds for while. Just looking for tips?

Hi Gina,

I'm trying to hold off having this done as long as poss. have seen the orthopods twice but basically will have to have it done more than once as the bones are still moving in my feet and the later it's done the less likely I am to have to have it done 3 times, rather than say twice. Hence the constant search for comfy but stylish footwear:-) I've had all kinds of orthotics and like you on the 3rd set.

A friend with RA who has had this done said that the pain - post op - was no worse than the pain that she already had in her feet and now is blissfully free of pain in her feet as she had her toe bones fused at the same time.

I'm sure there'll be some folks on here who've already had it done already to fill you in on what you need to know :-)

Have you seen the arc booklet on foot surgery?

Hi Gina, yes I had it done in January this year and in my experience it was well worth it.

Have had many ops on my feet in the past as you now and this is the latest one, operation was done on the day case unit, and I was put into an orthotics shoe, the one with the velcro straps so I could take it off and on easily. Had to try and keep the weight off it for two weeks, went back had the stitches out and no problems since. Am having the other one done soon surgeon as left it up to me when I want it done as it's not giving me to many problems at the moment.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Hi Gina, sorry forgot, didn't help with my arches still need to use he supports in my shoes, but I was having a lot of pain down the side of my foot which I thought was a problem with previous surgeries, but this as since eased.

Hope that's helpful in some way.
