Update on my podiatry visit

Hi everyone, I live in Australia.I went to see a private podiatrist. 250 dollars for the visit, money well spent.

Leg length is different, pronating badly.

750 dollar orthotics will be ready in 2 weeks.

New sneakers bought, 260 dollars.

Fingers crossed 🤞

In Australia, like everything you gotta get your wallet out for many services. Blessed to be able to afford this.

That's a lot of money! I'd never be able to afford that. Hope it works well for you. 😊

it’s Australian dollars so considerably less when converted

Not by much, but good if you have it. The price of everything these days is a shocker! Worth it if it improves things. 🙂

Well….. in UK you would be able to get a diagnosis(OK eventually) on the NHS, & start now putting that odd pound coin in a non see-through jar (kept out of sight) towards the sneakers - just in case. But you might get insoles that help much cheaper…..even footwear on the nhs too?

Don,t just think “ I can’t afford that” ….& put up with pain . I do know that sounds preachy…but I know personally it can work.I was told many years ago buying anything well rather than cheap does save money in the end…but you ned that jar!

Just think…if you don’t need the money in the jar…you can buy a nice treat for yourself, or someone else!

I pay £58 for a 50 minute podiatry appointment in the UK, but I get 3/4 of it back from my health insurance. Without the insurance I didn't go, but now I wish I'd gone years ago and just paid up!

Really pleased you’ve got it sorted. Definitely money well spent here

I’ll be interested to know how you get on with your orthotics having just had a pair ordered after my first ‘fitting’ where he simply looked at my feet and typed up the order. They will arrive by post in due course but I’m not holding out much hope they’ll reduce pain when walking due to RA, gout and a foot injury all in the same place but you never know.

If they aren,t comfortable from day one…..Don ‘t give up on them too soon.

I have a friend who is a retired foot surgeon & he said his work load would have been considerably reduced if people didn’t gave up on orthotics without work ….you might need to get them adjusted so do give them a good try!

I,km still struggling with getting Compression Socks On & Off! I dread to think how would manage with Orthotics!

I paid for orthotics privately as have foot problem due to RA cost £450 they felt really hard under my foot. GP referred me to NHS podiatrist who gave me ‘off the shelf ones which have been great !

Wonderful news! I feel it's a good investment to spend on well fitting shoes. Save up if you have to but, as my Nan used to say "always spend the most you can afford on your shoes and on your bed because if you're not in one you're in the other".

With the orthotic and suffering from bunion, I spent/wasted a lot of money in finding a good fitting trainer. My present pair from Good Balance is quite good. Can you tell me how did you get yours? I have a wedding to attend in June. Any experience of wearing a pair of casual shoes with orthotic?

I have found that, as long as the toe box and upper are deep enough, orthotics can be worn with casual shoes. Pavers have very helpful staff who are happy to assist.

I agree with Gnarli2 on Pavers
