The receipt they give you which has the type of vaccine you had and the batch number just has 11 /12 weeks on it.Keep a note of the batch number.

You need to speak to whoever prescribes your Rituximab. The time scales people mention here are what they are doing...we all have different advice.

Ask well ahead of time...

Not me. I had 1st dose area zeneca on Monday just gone. I am sitting tight and waiting. I know my gp has me on the ... I can turn up at short notice list and he knows my treatment depends on the 2nd dose. Good luck for this afternoon 🍀

I must be lucky, I booked mine online, immediately I had a text to confirm the appointment and another straight after with my next one twelve weeks later, I live in Nottinghamshire. Had mine yesterday at my local hospital, appointment was for 8.20. I walked in spot on time, was in what I call a moving queue, was out at 8.51. Had the Pfizer one, had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

I had my first vaccine dose yesterday, the Pfizer one and was given a card with batch number on and to either ring my Gp in 10-11 weeks time or they will contact me.

I had mine last Sunday, it was booked via my GP’s surgery. All the surgeries in my area use a hub, I was given a date for the second one at the same time, 25th April and confirmed before I left the hub as well and noted on the card they give you.

Different clinics are doing things differently. The one I’m volunteering at are giving the appointment for the second one when you receive the first one. The clinic my parents went to (same town) were told they’d be contacted nearer the time with an appointment. I’d ask when you are there how you get the second appointment.

Hi Deminem Yes, whilst I was waiting the mandatory 15 mins to make sure no adverse reaction to the jab. The nurse came round with an iPad and booked my next jab.

Good luck for today

Thanks guys and gals!

So I counted at least 4 different approaches there. Mine turned out to be the injector mumbling "we'll probably let you know or contact you or something"

I got the batch number card and was told to leg it. No obs period of 15, 10 or 1 minute. Had to wait in the rain for 30 minutes as they were running late. The trained injector(I used the word trained loosely)seemed less than enthused. She didn't even stand to reach my left arm which was furthest from her but motioned me to lean right over her desk and sharps bin, where she put the empty syringe narrowly missing my eye.

All that being said I think I had the jab, couldn't see whether it ejected before she stabbed it in, as so little of the vaccine is needed in the syringe. Ox/AZ is all I'm sure of.

If It did enter my body, don't get me wrong, I am very grateful and relieved even tough I am ranting about it. ;)

bpeal1 in reply to Deminem

If you have Phizer one you have to wait for 15 minutes after the injection, the Oxford/AstraZeneca one you can leave immediately after.

in reply to bpeal1

I had the Astra Zeneca one this morning & they asked me to wait for 15 minutes, even though i don’t usually have reactions to vaccinations. Obviously different procedures for different centres.

bpeal1 profile image
bpeal1 in reply to

According to government guidance there is no need to wait for 15 minutes after the Astra Zeneca one although it is recommended people don’t drive for 15 minutes after (see last paragraph of page 17 of guidance in link below).

You sound as ranting as I often am although my vaccination experience was excellent. I was not given a 2nd dose appointment just a card with with batch number of vaccine so this could possibly set of a rant in the weeks to come!! As all vaccines can possibly produce anaphylaxis I thought observation after injection was good practise, I know after my annual flu jab the pharmacist asks that I stay in the pharmacy for 10 minutes.

Yes got mine on Friday & was given the date in April for 2 nd one at time of booking. I booked on line from a link from GP’s surgery. There was some confusion when I had to call the 119 number to check I was ok to have it whilst on antibiotics who told me my booking reference didn’t exist. After a few hours of trying to sort that with no joy I posted on a local site & pleny of people said it’s fine. If you book locally through the link you get a reference with Letters then numbers. If you are no local but on the national online booking service it only numbers. Hence the confusion. I would have thought the lady at 119 would have known that but obviously not.

I hope it went well yesterday, most people I've spoken to think it's very well organised. Did you have any success with getting your second one booked? Both mine were booked by telephone with the hospital where my consultant is. My husband had a letter and booked both of his at the same time online. It seems to vary a lot from area to area.

It seems to depend on where you are. My husband and I, vaccinated at different centres in the same borough, were simply told we would be contacted about the next jab nearer the time. Some people in different parts of the country have been told their next date immediately. We have heard from local councillors that they only get two days' notice of a batch of vaccines coming and then have to make sure they have enough people booked to use it all within just a few days. Nightmare, but it has been managed very well.

I had my jab yesterday, I had the AstraZeneca. I asked about the date for the 2nd jab and was told that I would be contacted within the 12 weeks as it depends when they get their supplies. From speaking to friends it does seem that some have been given their 2nd jab date and some of us haven't so it really does seem to vary whether you have it at your own doctors practice or at a hub and also between different doctors practices seem to be doing different things. Apart from the jab site being a bit tender so far I have had no other symptoms or side effects. Some friends who had the AstraZeneca had to wait for 15 minutes before they could leave so I was expecting to have to do the same but after I had mine the nurse said I could go so even that seems to vary between doctors practices. Hope that all goes well for you.

No

I was invited to book both appointments at the same time. I think it depends on which vaccination centre you go to.

Hi Deminem I had mine on the 5th Feb at my Doctors surgery they didn't give any appointments for the 2nd but said I would be contacted within 12 week . What I was told by one of the volenteers on the the door which surprised me was my 2nd probably would not be at my surgery as they are only vaccinating when vaccines become available to them so could be anywhere for my 2nd .My worry is if it's too far to go for me to get to

Thanks, everyone.

It seems to loosely follow that ifyou go through your GP to book you may not get a 2nd date. But through hubs and healthcare, and hospitals you have more chance.

I got a txt from my GP to book 1st jab so did. Then a week later got a letter from a different department where you can book both apmnts online at the same time. Not in a rush to get the 2nd to be honest still feeling iffy from the 1st dose of Ox/Az .

Hi. I live in Nottingham. I booked online using the link on my NHS letter. I had to register with my email and a password with Swiftque. Once done you book your first appointment it then auto books you for your second jab. This is followed up with email/text confirmation and reminder. I got a card to say i've had my first jab in case anyone needs to see it. Easy.

This is a fast-moving picture.

After the news about Ox/Az not being as good at controlling moderate cases of the S.A variant, there have been talks of a mix and match vaccines approach. So by the time 3 months rolls around, we could be having a covid cocktail vax and not the same one we had originally ;) Who really knows, as covid is a moving target!
