No, I don’t think that I ever have had this checked? Maybe I’ll give the GP a call and mention it.
There’s nothing else going on with me ( outside the usual RA bits and pieces) but I actually feel if I don’t get rid of this smell, I’m going to lose my mind - it really is haunting me!
Hi Eiram 50 , i have experienced this as well except i was smelling smoke . It was very disturbing as it was such a strong smell . I think it was due to sinus problems, i did go to the gp as she changed the steroid nasal spray i had been prescribed. This did work though i do get short lived wafts of smoke on occasions in a smoke free house . I hope you can find the cause , best wishes 😀
Thank you for responding. I haven’t ever suffered with sinus problems but probably worth having a chat with GP as I’m not sure I could live with the smell!
It’s probably a good idea to run it by gp as there can be a variety of causes , even medications. I would be interested to hear how you get on as it is really unpleasant xx
Goodness that's what I used to get - it drove me nuts. I also used to smell burning wood but like chipboard had been sawn and the wood had overheated. It was absolutely awful.
I don't know it just stopped after a while but it did happen every now and then over a period of several years and even now occasionally. Maybe it was B12 as I do take it from time to time but not because of that.
My doctor thought that . I had an investigation by ENT and they said they didn’t really know, which was helpful🥴 I get migraines and I sometimes wondered if its something to do with that but no idea. I think it’s definitely more of a brain thing. Sometimes even now if I smell something nasty it can linger for a few days.
I can sympathise. I used to smell smoke all the time. It came on suddenly and I had it for a few months. It was before I was diagnosed with RA but I can’t help thinking it’s something to do with auto immune stuff. It’s gone now but I’m still very sensitive to smells. I used to think I was going mad. Definitely worth checking the vitamin B levels.
Since the beginning of my RA and MTX, about 18 months ago, I occasionally can smell a really intense floral/sweet/perfume aroma somewhat reminiscent of the cubes used in our dishwasher but it's not quite the same. My wife can't smell it and it predominantly occurs in the kitchen area. So, it could be something in there that kicks it off. Sometimes the smell is only fleeting for an hour or so but sometimes it lasts for several days. I thought I was going crazy until I read this post and thread.
Just wondering how taking vitamin B12 works to correct this in some people. Why might a deficiency cause this specific issue?
Thank God its not just me, I have been having the same problem for about 2 years now, not smelling petrol but its like car fumes, like I am sitting behind an exhaust pipe , its so strong a smell it makes me cough and my eyes water with it.
I smell something burning. It drives me crazy as I have a fear of fire. We have neighbors across the road who burn wood, but if I step outside and sniff, no smell. I smell it at night when I lie down to sleep. MyB12 was just checked. I do not have the numbers. Weird.
