I’m going to make Appt with doc for tomorrow but a bit concerned with the site on my tummy of my last Metoject 25ml injection. I administered it 6 days ago but the site has slowly gotten more red and fiery red . It looks like a burst blister with raw skin . Tonight when I removed my trousers the area was sore and bleeding .
Hopefully can get an Appt tomorrow but has anyone else ever found this to be a problem ?
I’circled the red area to see how far it travels by morning .

I have injected mtx for a number of years without a problem until now. I still have a red blistered spot from 3 weeks ago. Although it hasn’t bled like yours and hasn’t spread it is tender to touch. It is about the size of the circular plaster I use. I am due to have my biologic infusion on Thursday and intend asking the infusion suite staff about it. Makes you wonder if there is a bad batch somewhere? Let us know what response you get from your doc.
Thanks Thelmar. Yes I did think it was a large burn. It certainly could have been a faulty pen. Docs today and I’ll call Rheum Nurse today . I’ll keep you in loop .
I used to get reactions like that when I was on methotrexate injections over 10 years ago. I stopped taking it to try to conceive (hello my now 8 year old :-)) I have recently gone back on methotrexate and when I told them my previous reaction dr decided to start me taking it orally. Dr used to not b concerned then but when I mention it 10 years later they r more uneasy about that reaction. Think if it can b prevented they will try to prevent it. Best thing you have done is check with your doctor.
Hope you got some reassurance from your doc about the redness. I find I can inject in my legs (with occasionally a tiny bit of eczema about 10 days later near but not at the site) but get a terribly itchy belly if I inject there so now I only do my legs. Spoke to my rheumy about it back in April (so a telephone appointment only) and he said he wasn’t concerned but would look when he next got to see me, whenever that might be... I use Metoject by the way.
The area where I injected was indeed infected so now being dressed and antibiotics and off Metoject for a while.
I’d only been in it 4 weeks .
I had to stop the Sulphasalazine last week as my mouth was horrendous with ulcers and I’ve not been able to eat, talk etc even with all the mouthwashes .
So the consultant has put me back onto Sulpha and stopped the Metoject stay on the steroids ( long term) and sort the wound and start back again .
I only started the Sulpha two weeks ago so my body must have rejected something .
The sores / burns from the Metoject can be common I was told especially early stages .
So I’m gonna have to keep trying and hopefully I’ll get relief from mouth ulcers and or they’ll try me on something else Got to watch out for my lung disease and Under active thyroid .. What a whole lotta stuff going on and I’m a fit healthy lol 50+ with zest for life.
I’m loving this new place to discuss with others similar problems and good to know I’m not alone .
