Hello I have been on imuran for 2 years for a different autoimmune disease vasculitis but I have joint involvement for me it has been life changing. My pain has been significantly reduced and this has allowed me to improve my strength in muscles I am so much better than I was.If you and your doctor decide totry it I hope it works for you.I had frequent blood tests at the start and some mild nausea which I improved by eating a bigger breakfast. But now I have no problems blood tests still but less frequently and every time they have been ok

You might find past posts if you put in azathioprine, the generic name.

I've been on it for about ten years now. I have to take a maintenance dose of prednisolone as well. And I've still been having some flares when I have to increase the steroids. (But I'm not eligible for biologics unless I come off the steroids altogether and then I'm in so much pain that I can't function for the six months that I would need for the rationing system in the NHS. ) And I'm retired, so no longer a priority to get me functioning and back to work.

I do find it better for me than methotrexate (and the other DMARDs) but I do get nausea and intestinal hurry.

So on balance I'm fairly happy on it but it's not entirely effective.
