Looks like it is still in phase III clinical trials? Are you in the trial?

It’s a pretty new alternative to traditional PPI’s like omeprazole. Developed in Japan, so makes sense that available in Australia. In the UK it is I think still in phase III clinical trials while they test whether it is as or more effective than existing drugs. It would need to be better for the NHS to pay for it. And also want to look at long term effects as it’s new.

Sounds very interesting. It will be interesting to see what side effects it has if successful here. Many thanks.

Vonoprazan is not on the national health scheme here. It is only available through Compound Pharmacies and is therefore expensive costing A$10 per day. This drug, like many for me, adds weight and in the beginning flatulence but has now settled. Thank goodness. Long term effects. Who knows.

Vonoprazan (Takecab) hasn't completed trials yet here so isn't available in the UK & I can't find it registered as a new prescription med in Australia, unless it's so new it was only released in the last 5 days, the listing for 2020 only goes up to July. I've checked back as far as 2018, will check further back when I’ve a mo. It's been available to prescribe in Japan since 2015 & China since 2019 as far as I can make out, no other country. I'll keep looking, seems odd there's no info as you've been prescribed it.

You can find information of gastro adviser websites. I have complete trust in my gastroenterologist who is at the cutting edge of digestive diseases in Australia. I have IBD (ulcerative colitis and Chrohn's disease) which my specialist is successfully managing. My IPF causes GERD as 90% of patients with IPF have GERD. Management is key for me as my IPF is now 8 years from diagnosis and the self-life for patients is 2-5 years. I'm doing very well given all my complications. Quality of life is paramount for me, what I have left of it.

And if it works, prevents further health issues it will save money in the long term, just like the circa £10k a year for many biologics we take. The price will also most likely reduce over time too.
