I had the Norovirus last week ....BOY WAS I ROUGH. My joints were amazing though not an ache or stiffness any where in fact I could give Usain bolt a run for his money when I ran to the toilet. As much I as I was suffering I loved the freedom of movement. It took 4 days till I felt ok and started eating yesterday...... fast forward today a on going decline and tonight I can barely walk feet hurt sitting down and from the waist down I’m getting stiffer by the minute and my fingers and wrist joints are achy and starting to stiffen 🥺🙄

OH WELL IT WAS GOOD WHILE IT LASTED ... Bonus I lost just over a stone last week😁 but that will be short lived too.🥺

This old RD is a strange one, I too have much improved joints when I have a virus.

I'm pleased you are over the norovirus, but it is hard going back to poor joints after a taste of what it is like to have better joints.

Yep felt quite spritely now back to the RD shuffle and 2 handed pull up the stairs😞

Somehow it Makes sense. When we are ‘healthy’ our immune system is trying to eat away at us but when we catch a cold or virus the immune system leaves the damn joints alone while it’s distracted by this new invasion. It’s back to business as usual after a few days😂

I'm the same, I wonder if by actually being ill, as opposed to our RD attacking our immune system when we are not, it is doing the job it is supposed to and starts to fight the 'real thing' so to speak and leaves they rest of us alone. Boy is it a complex disease with lots of twists and turns. Sorry you have not been well, but glad it's given you a break from that 'unwelcome visitor' RD.

That’s exactly what my Rheumy nurse said . Immune system kicks in to fight the virus it’s what it’s supposed to do but because our immune system loves a fight it continues to attack only its attacking its own body .. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Wow I didn't know that, it was me just trying to think it through. So what we need then is a switch to say to our immune system, ok this is the real thing I really am ill so fight this thing for me, then ok flip the switch I'm better now so no you don't need to keep the battle going. Oh if only it were so easy.

We can dream

Meant to say I also had no dry eyes, mouth, nose and did not over heat in bed(leg stayed under the duvet) and no sweats

Can't say Norovirus was a good trade off for all that goes with RD, but isn't it strange how our immune system responds.

I’m the opposite, when I am ill then I flare more. Little wonder a cure hasn’t been found, we all react so differently.

And I guess there lies the answer...RD is so complex. I wished it weren't though.

I was the same. I came to the conclusion that my silly confused immune system was too busy fighting the virus to attack my joints. I hoped (naively) that the trauma had kicked the RA into touch. No such luck.

Can you get Mini-norovirus - just enough to keep the immune system distracted from attacking the body and mild enough not to cripple you?? 🙃

Seriously though I hope things ease up for you soon.

Ali you might have cured us😂😂😂a pill that has a virus 🦠 just enough to fool the immune system but not knock us of our feet ..... genius 😁

Oh crumbs. I didn't know that could happen.

I do hope your decline has holted and you are on the up today. Take care.

How strange. Nine years ago, I had Swine Flu and was very ill. I was in bed most of the time for a month and lost three stones in weight as I couldn't keep anything down. However, as regards my pain I had almost no trouble at all and came off nearly all my pain medications. When I started to improve and was able to eat again, the pain gradually came back and when I was completely better from Swine Flu the pain seemed unbearable. What a strange illness RD is.
