Looks like I can finally take my meds to treat the seropositive RA I was diagnosed with in August. Question....how do people decide when to take it?i gather nighttime is more favourable for most but do you feel crap the next day? I have also got to take Hydochloraquin 2x a week and Folic acid all on different days.

What do you lovely lit do. Thanks

Like RA we all have different symptoms and reactions. I take my methotrexate on a Wednesday evening so I can sleep the effects off.some days I’m tired others have a bit of nausea and then there are days I have no problems what’s so ever. Another reason I take it on a Wednesday is if I go out over the weekend (rare these days) and have a few drinks I’m not over loading my liver. I also drink lots of water the day before, the day I take methotrexate and the day after to flush the toxins in the kidneys and liver. This is what works for me. Everyone is different as we all react differently you will find what’s best for you.

Call your rheumy nurse.....she will have your notes,& will explain how to best take your meds.

We all have different regimes...tbh you often just feel your own way in the first few months....don’t expect to feel bad.....just take the meds as directed & then forget about them.

Although you wouldn’t know it from here..... most people get on well with their RA meds...but they don’t bother to write about it, We only put pen to paper when we are feeling rotten.

Hope you get some good results soon........🤗

Just a tip for the hydroxychloroquine, take it with a cup of milk which helps a bit with the guts.

The main thing is to get a regime that suits you. But with MTX keeping hydrated is important, lots of water , meaning several extra litres the say before and after taking it. I found eating carbohydrates the day after almost took away 100% of the nausea.

Most folks take MTX in the evening as it can make you a bit tired, so lots of fluid , MTX, bed, fluid and carbs next day you'll be fine.

I don't take alcohol preferring to give my body the best chance to deal with living with RD. Others take small amounts and seem to manage ok.

Good luck.

When I first took mtx I was told to take it on a monday. Monday/methotrexate so I wouldn't forget. It's entirely your choice when you take it, to suit your lifestyle. I take it in the evening because I would never remember in the daytime 😊

Choose a day that suits you best so you can relax if you start to feel unwell or tired. I take mine on a Monday morning as I don't work Monday's or Tuesdays so I can have both days to take it easy if I need it. Just remember to drink plenty of water it does help. Good luck!

I take MTX on Sundays about noon after a fairly big meal plus plenty of water. Actually, lots of water every day now. No nausea to speak of and, although I was prepared for a bad day on Monday, nothing else really. Just in case, I schedule in nothing much for Mondays.
