Cool Pouches for Biologics

Hi all, I have now been informed that I can start Humira biosimilar Imraldi as soon as Healthcare at Home have the prescription. I have selected the pen injector which are a lot bigger than the syringe, can anyone please recommend a cool travel pouch that would take at least 2 of the pens along with 4 Methotrexate prefilled syringes, for going long haul & short haul hols?

Not going yet as have to see how well I get on but moving house soon & will need one for then so may as well buy one big enough to cover all instances! All input appreciated! Edit if you go to Weldricks.co.uk Pharmacy you get a medigenix coolmeds travel pouch £10 cheaper than anywhere else (vat free) if you declare you have a genuine long term illness & free delivery £39.99...,

I bought an insulated bag designed for babies’ bottles. It works brilliantly.

There's been loads of discussions on cool bags here. It might be well worth a search (the little magnifying glass icon at the top) on the topic and see what comes up.

If you are traveling for 4 pens worth of Humira or less then you just need something to keep it (and the MTX) below 25 degrees. It can be out of the fridge for that long.

I just use something like this that has gel packs I can freeze.

It can only be out of the fridge 15 days. My fridge broke and was only allowed to use one. Rest were taken back to be disposed of. It was also thick snow at the time.

Sorry 14 days.

Ok, sorry! My mistake, I read 28 days...don't know why!

Which is even more stupid as that was a big reason why I chose Enbrel over Humira!

No worries, didn't want anyone getting the lecture I got from h@h over broken fridge. Xx

Hi try eBay, type in medical cool bag and choose your size no need to pay a fortune, even a small packed lunch bag would suffice. Good luck! 🤗 X

I have used the MediGenix bag for many trips over the last 4 years. Can highly recommend it and it has the added advantage of temperature display on the outside of the bag. It has kept the Humira at under 8C for 36 hours on an occasion when we suffered a delay. Available on Amazon - a tad expensive but money well spent in my opinion. Also directly from

medigenix.co.uk

Thank you & yes would need one that keeps meds safe for at least 24 hrs if we go back to Australia xx

Do they take the pen as well as pre filled syringe as I opted for the pen xx

Peejay64 profile image

Yes - good for both types of injection x

I never get more than 4 weeks supply at a time, so no need to keep at 8 degrees. Do you get more so you can go away for longer?

Peejay64 profile image
Peejay64 in reply to helixhelix

It’s more to do with being away for 3 weeks at a time - means one of my Humira pens needs to be kept under 8C till I need to use it. Apparently Imraldi has a longer storage period out of the 4-8C range.

See answers above.....I misread the timings.

I got mine from Amazon plus a letterbut it's hard work going through security and they take little notice of keeping it at the correct temperature

I use a frio pouch for my enbrel. Justvtravel,on a plane for 8 hours and it kept it cool. Theybare available on amazon in different sizes

Paula-C profile image

Does a frio pouch keep drugs at the right temperature 2-8 degrees? I didn't think it went that low.

Juliachoo profile image
Juliachoo in reply to Paula-C

Have bought one Paula a medigenix coolmeds, has built in thermometer etc xx

Paula-C profile image
Paula-C in reply to Juliachoo

That's what I use Julia, it's really good. Have a play with it because we find mine goes too cold to start with. Once at security I had to open mine, temperature rose by a few degrees, but once closed it went back down. When we get to our hotel we leave the drugs in the case so we can keep an eye on the temperature. x

Juliachoo in reply to Paula-C

I bought it now because I need to be able to move house without worrying about the meds, so killing two birds with one stone & then use for holidays. I also think when you have very expensive meds it’s not worth cheap skating on a travel pouch. How long do your batteries last? I havnt put them in yet xx

Paula-C in reply to Juliachoo

Think I bought mine when we went to Tenerife, that was January last year. It's in a cupboard at home in the kitchen where I store my mtx injections, it's handy to know what temperature it is inside the cupboard, last time I looked it was still displaying the temperature. x

Chrissycl profile image
Chrissycl

Not that low but under 25 degrees which is the advice for enbrel now when out of fridge. Mine was consistently under 20 degrees.

Hi Julia

Worth speaking to Healthcare at Home as well, to see if they have any that they recommend or can supply, as I know they did in the past, but not sure if they are able to with all the different brands and sizes now.

Kind regards
