Methotrexate and the menopause

Been on methotrexate very successfully for over 15 years and lead a very active and fulfilling life. Over the last 12 months I have started the menopause and not sure whether to consider HRT. To complicate matters I suffered a pulmonary embolism 18 months ago so you can see my concerns. Has anyone got any advice they would be willing to share?

15 years of RA cured with a dental operation: I would check for dental infections, with cavita scan. My 15 years RA was cured since my dental surgery on 22 October. Offically received a phone call today confirming my CRP factor is 8 therefore they ask me to be off my meds. I have been off since 6 october for the operation. I also had 10 years gum disease, so I would be checking for dental infections, mercury poisoning and metal allergy. I also has metal amalgam replaced. All in al 6k pounds of work, but got 15 years of RA cure. Pricelless. I used to take methotrexade and cimzia replaced by Tocizulab this year. I am off them now. Go get a cavitat scan on a holitic dentist. Call first and ask if they have cavitat scan. Not all have them. I had an histeroctomy because of cancer cells found and I atributed that to a cream they gaver me once called vagi foam several months before the issue, so I would be very carefull with any cream or meds that contains estrogen it can cause cancer. Thanks God i am clean and ok now. My aim is to be off any meds or any suplements with time. Good luck.

Yes agree with you, and so does the latest science. Natural progesterone is the best to take. Will help in many ways and keep cancer away. Estrogen is very much a part of cancer development after menopaus.

Hi there Stellap, I WAS on MTX ( not now) and I was on HRT during that time. My stomach rejected the MTX but I don't think that had any relation to HRT. With you having had a lung problem it all gets a bit tricky re different meds. I would strongly advise you to go to your menopause clinic for advice and they should liaise with Rheumatologist and your GP regarding your present medication. Hope this is helpful. Xx

As hormone treatment increases your risk of thrombosis slightly it seems unlikely that you would be prescribed that. It would be sensible to seek specialist advice about how to manage these times which can be quite difficult for some people.

Will make that appointment- not sure what will be worse: RA or menopause symptoms. Been almost on remission fir the last 10 years with taking MTX but don’t wish to have a relapse. Thank you for your kind advice
