Hi Everyone, I only managed 7 days of the S one, I felt I couldn't breath, so took myself off them, the hospitail rang requesting to see me this Tuesday, and I know they will want me to try another one, although I am not feeling too bad at the moment(maybe its gone away)

anyway I am asking you lovely people do you loose your hair with Hydroxychloroquine? Thank you

VeronicaF,

I’ve been on Hydroxychlorquine for 5 years and I don’t think I’ve lost any hair! You will need to have your eyes checked every year while taking this medication. I take Methotrexate injections,Sulphasalazine, and Hydroxychlorquine and haven’t had any problems with these medications! Good Luck!

Thank you, I have very poor quality hair, very fine and thin, so I need all the help I can get, so worry about anything making it worse.

VeronicaF,

Oh I know what you mean! When I started these meds I was so scared and nervous but they’ve really helped me a lot!

Thank you Jarme, I am not too bad at the moment, the best I have felt in ages, no pain killers, slight pain but nothing to write home about.

I did take myself off my homones, I am wondering if they have been half my problems? I have been on them for years but maybe my body had had enough of them.

you watch it will all start off tomorrow not I have said that :O),fingers crossed it wont

I’ve been taking hydroxychoroquine for 6 yrs now & my hair is the same as it’s always been. As jarme has said you need to get your eyes checked regularly.

I take both hydroxychlorquine and Sulfaslazine. I also had difficulties with the Sulfasalazine and on the advice of my GP and the pharmacist persevered. I was very sick and dizzy every day (couldn't sit up at one point due to the dizziness). As the pharmacist said, these side effects should disappear at around 8 weeks and he was right. It has now enabled me to come off the Pred and nothing else did.

I admit, I have a lot of hair, but I haven't noticed any of it coming out. I have previously lost all my hair though due to the shock of the pain and an infection, but not due to the hydroxy.

As always, what suits one may not suit another. On MTX I was given sulphasalazine as a top up and I felt so ill on it that I rang the rheumy helpline and they told me to stop it after just three weeks. The MTX's side effects are nowhere as awful for me

I had awful side effects from Sulfa stuck it 12 weeks of vomiting almost constant then tried leflunomide failed that one as caused skin discolouration eventually diagnosed as post inflammatory pigmentation so out went it too! Now trying hydroxy for size! I've kept methotrexate and use anti sickness pills but that and some pred seems to keep my arms& hands from swelling like elephant man again so sick or not...it stays put! M x
