Always Nauseous

Hi all, recently I’ve been having some issues with my stomach. I’ve been experiencing nausea almost every day, and I can’t tell if it’s because I’m very hungry, or because of something else. I recently restarted my meds as well (Zoloft), and I was wondering if that could be the cause to my nausea. If so, how long will it last? I just restarted them maybe 4 days ago. Maybe even longer, but not by too much.

Also, I’m definitely not pregnant, haha.

But I have extreme difficulty eating, because sometimes my body just doesn’t seem to want food. I feel nauseous even thinking about certain foods.

I’m also wondering if this could be a stomach virus? Although it’s probably unlikely, because my only symptoms are nausea, and the occasional shakes. I also feel very weak sometimes, too. But it doesn’t feel like the flu.

Someone please help me in trying to figure this out!!! I’m scared that my eating habits will become even worse.

Prior to bedtime, I ‘ve given up my strong painkillers for a day or two due to them inducing nausea; for my break from codeine & paracetamol l am having a glass of whisky & orange ...!

My adrenal insufficiency started off with constant nausea, lack of appetite and progressed from there. Probably too early to ask for a Cortisol Test from your doctor but if your symptoms continue, bear it in mind. I hope that you don’t have it and that you soon start to feel a bit better.

In my case, it is Gerds or Acid Reflex. It seems to run with a lot of different autoimmune disorders. I get nauseated and I only get relief from belching. Most common after I get more than half way through a meal. Other times, just the nausea by itself, not related to a meal. Could be one of the many drugs we have to take, too. Hard to say.

Drink lots and eat some carbs before you take meds, and stay well hydrated, it helps a lot with me.

okay, thank you! lately i haven’t been having much of an appetite either, which is also a side-effect of Zoloft. i just want this nausea and loss of appetite to be gone, already!!

Read your medication instructions - some symptoms of meds may be nausea. I found coffee didn't help. Lots of fluids may help, but perhaps the medication needs to get back in your system before it settles down.

I was on MTX and went through exactly the symptoms you are describing for 7 years due to an old school specialist - who said I should weigh up what was more important, a little bit of nausea or RA! So I put up with it, I would take medication, then folic acid 6 days a week, I was nauseous 6 days of the week. On the 7th it was getting a bit bearable but the next day I would take MTX again and be back to where I started! There were times I couldn't get out of bed due to the nausea and roiling in my stomach. I felt hungry, but couldn't bare the thought of food, but if I did eat it made no difference!

Eventually he left the hospital and I got a new specialist, he was appalled and said that medication was about the illness, but it was also about quality of life.

So don't suffer quietly like I did, if it persists go back and speak to someone.

I’m very sorry you had to deal with that! Good thing you got a new doctor. Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely consider weaning off of my meds if it persists any longer.

Look at the leaflet that came with your Zoloft, as it mit list this as a side effect. If so go and ask your doctor about finding an alternative.

I have it all of the time these days. When I’m on prednisone it’s better. I think mine is allergy related and the best way I can describe it is a feeling of constant motion sickness. If I use a combination of allergy medication and nasal spray, it seems to dry the fluid in my ears and I feel better for a bit.

I’m so sorry you feel this way. Personally, I’d rather deal with RA than nausea. There is nothing worse. I’m glad you got a new doctor.

I’ve been headachy and nauseous for about a week now. Wondering the same as you. I’m on methotrexate and supposed to up the dose but I’m fearful I’ll feel worse. Such a mess.

I’m also fearful that I’ll feel worse if I end up switching medications. I don’t want to have to go through the process of re-adjusting to new meds!

I thought so!! How long do you think it will take my body to adjust to the medication?

I couldn't handle the med...it made me throw up the day after taking it. The doc told me it usually takes 10 days. I ended up taking something called mirtazapine. Increased my appetite 😀
