Daughter diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis

Hello - I belong to several groups here, and this is my latest group. My daughter - 41 yrs old was finally diagnosed with AS. She also has schlerosis in her back and ulcerative colitis. We believe she has had RA since she was at least 26 yrs old. We saw her Rheumy doctor yesterday and he wants to start her on Humira right away. He said he could go with other meds - (not the biologics), but because the schlerosis in her back is somewhat advanced, he thought Humira would be the best to start with and see how she does with it. She has been in pain for most of these years and has seen numerous doctors who never referred her to a rheumatologist. My daughter and I are the ones who put it together. Her doctor is great by the way and is really happy to be able to help her. We are hoping her insurance will pay for the meds. Does it sound right about the Humira at this point?

I was diagnosed took 15 years to get it and a lot of damage caused but the moment I had a firm diagnosis I was put on Humeria it has been fabulous for the pain in back pelvis and hips . I was able to come of all the other meds and only take Solpadol now or steroids if a flair up starts . The RA is causing me more grief now as the Humeria hasn't helped much with hands feet elbows but tell her to go for it I have been able to walk it's been a life changer at the moment 🤗

Thank you for your reply! I feel better, even though I know it’s all that can be done now. She has had 16 yrs of this at least. She had to change jobs because of her back and joint pain. Now she has a desk job. Wishing you the best!

Good luck to her I unfortunately had to give up work as I was unable to walk at the time and life was grim it seems unbelievable that 12 months later I moving around on my own without someone having to help me out of a chair . Tell her to pace herself and to exercise as much as possible as that helps with the pain . 🤗
