I have been on prednisone for over 8 years, have been on 3 mg for a long while. Specialist has said I can try and come off them. Going down .5 a month, just wondering what to expect over the next few months if I'm successful.

Hi,
Sorry, I have no experience of this. But just wanted to reply to say I hope you get the answers you need. And to say 'Good luck!'
I have been on 10 mg for 5 years.I know can cause bone damage etc but what can you do.I have just seen another doctor and he is recommending to my general rheumatologist that he adds another DMARD to my others.I tried reducing myself just one tablet and was in agony so thought better not meddle.
I hope it helps for you.
Is your doctor replacing the steroids with something else? If not, you might experience pain. I had been getting steroid shots every 2-3 months, and when I got a new rheumatologist she said that steroids are best saved for emergencies. They are not good for long term use due to the damage they can do. Good luck coming off.
Thanks for answering.
